The issue is you've broken it ;) or at least upset it.

Can you get into safe mode on boot up?

Can you get into safe mode on boot up? yes I can:)

Dont know how I broke it and I wouldnt have know

the same happened to me some days ago, i found suspicious software in task manager and i noticed that incredibly mcafee found its way inside my computer 8already have avast installed) and no "remover" was available. after removing a suspicious spyware search engine 8i do not remember) and after removing mcafee file by file from my computer, all started to work correctly.
i noticed there was 2 "run once" processes. when i terminated that, desktop showed up!, try starting a new process (file-> new process) and put "explorer.exe" or simply "explorer" (without quotes)

McAfee comes "bundled" with Adobe Flash and Reader. You need to remember to tick it off, when you install updates.

try to terminate "run once wrapper" and "run once wrapper (32bit)" and see what happen

@protek, ok maybe i forgotted to uncheck, but why no remover?? i threat program that self install and do not have remover as malware..

My wife's Win 8 laptop did this a while back. Just booted to a black screen with mouse. It's definitely malware/virus infection causing it.

I had to boot into safe mode, work out what the infection was. Then follow some online guides to clean the system. It then needed to repair the windows install, which took quite some time, then rebooted and was fine.

I've told her to stop installing free software she keeps finding and thinking will be useful for work.
