Yesterday I got my hands on an A500 which also came with a Supradrive 500XP and a 2mb ram trapdoor expansion by Virgo.

My issue is this:

With the trapdoor ram enabled the Amiga sees all the ram, trapdoor + the 4mb of the supradrive fine BUT the hard drive will not show up at all. It does spin up but does not make the reading sound, not even the self test reading sound that it would normally do, just spinning.

With the trapdoor ram disabled the 4mb of the supra works and the hdd works too.

I've tried this also on my A500+ . With the trapdoor ram (1mb) inserted I see 2mb chipram + 4mb fastram but no HDD

Remove the trapdoor ram and the HDD works but I only have 1mb chip + the 4mb of the supra.

It should be noted that the SUpradrive did NOT come with an external PSU and is powered using the Amiga. As far as i know external PSU was optional.

whats the rating of the power supply?(its written on the back)

i have one of these thats fully populated with 8mbs and it works fine with trapdoor ram,the drive is a scsi real drive.

also check the connector is clean on the 500xp

The power supply is 60 watts.

I can try another power supply as i've got loads. I'll also try cleaning the connector. Any tips as it is female ?

Note that when the trapdoor ram is disabled it is working all perfectly.

Supra had several issues with early ROMs fitted, so which Version do you have?

How much ram is this ?

Workbench says there is 4.5mb but supra ram test says found supra 2 meg ran board. This board is configured as 4 meg ram

So please open the supra and check how many of which dips are mounted...

8x 1Mx4 chips are 4 Mb...

Ok, i removed the supra and sprayed iso clean and inserted/removed a few times and it booted.

Now WB shows the full 6.5mb ram and boots hd and all.

I think the SCSI HDD may be dying. Its 52mb and when switched on/off and even sometimes (not often) during access it makes a scraping sound. It also givers read errors. Says Volume b has a read error

So You need a small scsi hd, the controller has problems with hdds around 1 GB and more...

4 gig drive in mine...

EDIT,mine has a 100mb zip drive and cd rom attached as well. it seems to be fine, the original drive that came wit it was about 52mb(it had a stuck head) so i changed it out and hack the memory off a 8mb simm to work in it along with the larger drive via an adaptor.
