Mini review of Pseudo-stereo SID C64 from Tynemouth Software
Hi thought I'd share some pics and a mini write up. In the past I have bought a few boards for Pet (PET-MicroSD, a sound buzzer etc etc) from Dave at Tynemouth Software and I wanted to comment on a nice new SID board he's now making as it works great.
Everything I've got from Dave has been fantastic, really VERY high quality. So I wanted to try this C64 dual-SID board out. In the past I've tried more than one SID2SID and a dualSID board .. with varying results. Biggest issues have been the complexity of resolving the 12v/9v difference in the various SID chips and TBH the faff of making the damn boards work at all.
Tynemouth cleverly get round the C64 6581 12v and 8580 9v problem by creating on-board power supplies for each SID on the same tiny board as the SID's.
Just plug it in, put the SIDs in the right sockets, 1 x flylead to the board, take the 2nd audio where you want it and away you go.
Ghostbusters speech is loud and clear and the sound is great.. Both SID's are at the same address with this board.. I'm not bothered by SID's at different addresses as I just want to play games with nice SID sounds
I've added phono sockets to the rear of my C64 but also taken the 2nd SID output to a spare /cut pin 7 on the existing a/v socket. With a change to my s-video/audio lead my TV outputs left / right audio from each SID and gives a nice 'psuedo-stereo' effect worth having.. and I now have a 6581 as the main sid in my C64c !
Don't have 2 real SID's? In my other C64c i've mounted a nano swinsid as the 2nd SID, this just needed a chunk cut out of the keyboard top edge to clear - all good! Also tried an otherwise knackered SID in as SID2, and as the blog here says you can sometimes get away with a SID that wont be read from or has bust filters... works for me also. He makes boards for various combo's.

ps retro video shack made me up a cable a while ago to match this pinout - but it was simple for me to make up another myself. (YMMV here, check your own C64 as not all wired the same)
