Hey all, Figured I'd introduce myself. I originally picked up my Amiga 1000 (with disks, monitor & mouse) for free on a curbside giveaway weekend. The A1000 is still sitting in storage. I haven't touched it. However, I save an A2000 from a e-recycler a few months after I found the A1000. It was just the main unit with no monitor or anything. So of course, I knew I could use my A1000 monitor with it. I picked up a keyboard and a mouse.

I had to take it apart and fix the leaky battery issue, replace the sockets, etc etc. I got into contact with a local person and bought a G-Force 040 accelerator and a video toaster. I stuffed in a hard drive I scrounged from a broken Macintosh and a CD drive from an old Starmax. I also put Kickstart 2.04 in it (and had to modify the chip socket)

The Amiga works great! I'm waiting for some connectors for my video toaster.

The one thing I've been having a bit of a difficult time working with has been running the PreVue TV listing software which requires a Genlock. I learned the hard way that the toaster doesn't play nice with other genlocks, and blew a fuse on the 12v video line inside the Amiga, so I'm waiting for some board mount fuses to show up. Apparently, the Scanlock is the only Genlock that will play nice with the toaster. I saw that a couple have been sold here, so I figured I'd join the community for the next time one pops up.

I honestly can't really think of a use for my Amiga 1000. I don't play games (at least none of the ones made for the A1000), so I may eventually end up selling it. I haven't decided yet.

Anyway, beefing up my A2000 has been a fun journey thus far, and I might even use it for some video editing down the road.

Hello and welcome :)
Finding an A1000 like that is amazingly fortunate. The 1000, 3000 and CDTV were always the nicest looking in opinion.

When I was loading it into the truck, the owner came out and was absolutely thrilled that I knew what it was and that it was going to a good home. He reminisced about it for a bit. It reeked of cigarette smoke, but I didn't care. It's been airing out for a few years, so it's not all that noticeable anymore.

Welcome Bungopony! Whereabouts in Canada are you? I'm in Vancouver, BC.

I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I believe if you keep your Amiga frozen, the battery doesn't leak as bad :D

Figured I'd put up a couple pictures of the A2000; One of it running the PreVue software, one running the toaster.

I'm in Calgary! Just pulled my A1200 out of 15+ years of storage but haven't had a chance to test it.

What should I be looking for, a little leary of booting it up. Was thinking to open the case, clean the dust and look for leaks.

Check for battery and capacitor leaks. Inspect for any
bluish-green fuzzy looking stuff.. I cleaned the gunk and corrosion off my motherboard with vinegar
