Hello everyone!
I'm Rafael from Madrid, a telecommunications engineer who has been working in software engineering for over 20 years. I suppose my journey into the world of retro computing is a pretty common one. The first computer I owned was an Amiga 500, although my very first experiences were with a friend's ZX80. It seems my parents, although hesitant at first, made a solid investment when they finally decided, and in retrospect, it was definitely a wise choice. Those years of self-taught discovery with the Amiga were unforgettable.
As time passed, I moved on to the more mainstream world of PCs, but the memory of the Amiga always stuck with me. So, during the pandemic —whether out of nostalgia or as a way to stay sane— I started collecting some vintage machines, mainly from Commodore, but also others that piqued my historical interest. My goal is not only to collect but also to program at least something, however small, on each one, to better understand the experience of working with those machines and their limitations.
These days, I’m scratching the itch to learn low-level programming on the Amiga, so I’d really appreciate any recommendations or resources on the topic. I've already come across some great books, like "Bare-Metal Amiga Programming" by Edwin van den Oosterkamp and what I consider to be the best so far, the Amiga Hardware Reference Manual, co-authored by Jay Miner himself (though it's a pity it’s no longer available in print at a reasonable price).
Looking forward to your advice and insights!
Best regards,
Rafael
