This year I got a TF530 PCB with the intent of building one to put in my A500. Well, things have changed a little bit, as I’d like to keep my mint A500 as it is, I’ve acquired a second A500 Rev. A6 for cheap, it was in a very bad state and not working. First things first, the A500 booted to a green screen, which means chipram problems. I had to fix that first, it turned out that all of the RAM chips were broken and had to be replaced. So, I did and it came back to life :). The hand with the disk appeared on the screen :).

So, I decided to do some improvements on this A500. I did the following improvements:

- I soldered 4 extra RAM chips on the board and added them to the chipram, so it now has 1mb chipram.
- It now has Kickstart 3.1 (27C400 EPROM), at first this would be very unstable on a Rev. 6A. Software failure, guru’s, etc. It did run very stable on Kickstart 1.3, so I figured something went south in addressing the new ROM. It occured to me that a few resistor networks were missing on the board. So, I soldered two 4k7 resistor networks on RP106 and RP107, solved the problem. It’s running perfectly stable now.

After that, I cleaned the case and keyboard which were, ehrmmm quite rancid. After a big cleaning job, the machine actually looks good now. A super Denise chip is on the way, so this Rev. A6 will be pretty much an A500+, minus the RTC and battery.

Let’s build the TF530, and make it an awesome A500!
