Unfortunately rather used, and NOT WORKING.

I have tested the voltage at the end of the mains adapter, which plugs into the controller. This shows something like 13.5 volts. The cable end that plugs into the console itself only shows a few volts on one of the pins, the rest show nothing. The Virtual Boy makes NO NOISE, there is NO HUM OF SPINNING MIRRORS, NO GENERAL HUM OF ELECTRONICS DOING THEIR THING, there is NO SOUND from the speakers [it's is so long since I used it I cannot recall whether it has builtin speakers, but it looks like it does] and NO SOUND from plugging in headphones. And yes I turned the volume up.

Lot comprises:

- Virtual Boy itself with the rubbery cloth headpiece

- Bipod stand which is held together with Polymorph - this is just plastic that goes flexible in hot water, it's just pressed in place and left till it stiffens, it doesn't attach in any gluey way - and also held onto the Virtual boy with Polymorph

- The controller. This appears to have a lower piece missing, I can't remember if we ever had it but either way, it's not here. The adapter cable is held in with [guess what] Polymorph.

- The mains adapter, this has the US-style 2 flat pins, but I am including a US-to-UK adapter [third party of course]

The Polymorph is the white stuff in the pictures.

Then I have three games, all boxed with inserts:

Teleroboxer
Tetris
Virtual League Baseball

and one bare game:

Mario's Tennis

The games all worked when the console last worked, and have been stored in a cupboard since. I cannot guarantee any of them in the circumstances.

PRICES AND SPLITS
===============

I would rather sell this as one lot, for £125, or just the console for £65. MIGHT consider offers.

POSTAGE IS NOT INCLUDED. I use whatever is cheapest out of Royal Mail and couriers selected through Parcel2Go which have dropoff points reasonably close to me. INSURED POSTAGE only.

Payment by Paypal gift only.

Ok on perusing the web my surmise is that this cannot be fixed, at least not cost effectively: the problem is more than just the ribbon cables and the only sensible way to troubleshoot is to swap around parts with a known working VB - for example to show whether it's the main unit. Beyond that someone needs to inspect and/or test the internals of whichever bit is at fault, or replace it.

As such I suspect I will have to reduce to something like £20 or less for the VB excluding games, and at that price I might as well keep it and use it as an ornament....

So: thread can be closed.
