Dear fellow AmiBayers,

I would like to connect one of my PC's to my already much beloved A4000 (which I recently purchased second hand), and wanted to know whether the following cable would be suitable for file transfer between the two systems:

If not, which one would you recommend? Stability is more important to me than speed ;-)

Thanks in advance for your advice / guidance :)

Cheers,
Alexander

I would use a CF or SD card and then insert it in the Amiga with an adapter on the IDE.
A second option, is to add a DVD drive to the A4000 and then burn the files on the PC, that is the quickest way.
3rd option is to format a IDE harddrive with Winuae on your pc, transfer all the files and insert as slave in the 4000.
4th option is to do the same only with a SCSI drive, which would require an Adaptec 2940 or something in the PC and GVP HC8 II in the 4000, or Z3 Fastlane or whatever.

Null modem cables won't work, even if you do get it to work, it will be so slow.

Hi neighbor :) this is what I love about this community and its members: why didn't I think of option 2 myself, brilliant !

Thanks so much for your guidance Buzzfuzz !

Cheers,
Alexander

I used to have usb to serial cable on pc side connected to null modem cable to amiga back in the day and it worked just fine.
Why not just use a network card, especially on a4000?

Hi drugkito :) Thanks for your response, much appreciated ! Your suggestion about using a network card is definitely something worth considering, especially since I’ve ordered the ZZ9000 (which I’ve been patiently waiting for over a month now ;-) and it's supposed to handle network connectivity as well. In the meantime, I’ll follow Buzzfuzz’s suggestion, burning DVDs and transferring the files off them onto the Amiga. ...

I relied on ProNET for PC to Amiga file transfers back in the early 2000s. You just mounted NET: I think it was, and then the PC's drives would show up in there, kind of like a SMB share. Very cool, but sloooooooow.
