Original xbox ( applex V ) mod chip installed ADVICE .

Hello iv just bought a 2nd hand original Xbox from a mate of a mate, has been in storage for a long time . Powered on fine to a slayers boot screen.

* the original hard drive is still installed ( with it having this mod chip installed is it easier to add a bigger hard drive? )

* think I need more software installed to add a hard drive so -
* iv tried burning an Iso disk cd and DVD of slayer software from my pc ( no disks will recognise )

Any help would be appreciated. I kno someone ( or some people ) here knows there stuff.

Hi Chris

Having a Mod Chip does make it easier to install a bigger hard drive because the Hard Drive does not need to be locked to the X Box like a soft mod does.

Trying googling AID 4.5 Xbox Install Disc as it will cater for Hard and Soft Modded Xbox's and has a version of XBMC on the Disc.

If you are having trouble with DVR's being read it could be the DVD drive installed in your XBox

Phillips were fine but Thompson's could be a royal pain to read DVR's

It is a Thomson drive ! - can I simply swap the DVD drive for a different one?
Ie : a old pc drive or is that just silly?

You can't swap it with a pc drive without modification to the drive and it has to be a specific drive but if you have any other xbox's the drives are swappable

I'm not having any luck finding anything to work on the DVD drive, can I use a USB / controller - sd pen to boot something?

Iv just linked an old controller wire to a female USB wire , I found a pic to do it and it works with my 4gb micro sd card in a hub. Just formatting it now in the Xbox . - not sure what good it is as it was described as a soft mod project.

You can use 4gb or less usb sticks as memory cards if i recall correctly but it is only usb 1.1 so is quite slow and i don't believe you can boot from it. This is the PC drive modification i was talking about

Never tried installing a launcher on an Xbox from a USB stick tbh

I've had no luck still . Think I'm looking for a new DVD drive .
Unless I hit lucky n one of theese CDs boot!

I've never had an xbox drive boot from CD-R you must burn to DVD-R.
There are replacement lasres for the xbox dvd drives available from MrModchips

Ok cheers iv tried both cd-r and DVD-r i will not use cd again . I will try a few more DVD-r today so fingers crossed

If I buy a replacement Thomson laser will I still be stuck with a crap Thomson drive that won't read my disks? ( the one I'm using now reads some clean originals )

Seen a picture somewhere of my mod chip that has 2 wires coming off it , mine is without theese 2 wires ! I can't find any info on it though.

If there is an issue with the mod chip installed completing a soft mod is quite easy.

I have the kit required if you need assistance.

Paradroid - I think it works cos iv got slayer installed and iv one back up game that works - that came with it...

I think I just need to get a copy of aid or slayer on DVD to boot so I can install a new hard drive

I've messed about trial and error trying to get the pc DVD drive to work and YES !!!?

I have slayers evox auto installer working

Now what lol

Now got original DVD drive in the back and pc DVD in the front a200gb hard drive installed , fitted in pc media case, starting to install stuff , looking good.
Sd memory card slot installed , extra fan , blue LEDs .
