Great game, i already own it.

What confused me a bit is it says free - until may 24th.

Now does that mean you can play it until 24th, or if you get it before 24th, you get to keep it..

You can download it for free until may, nobody's going to check on you if you still play it later. ;)

Hmmm. Didn't Portal come free with the Orange Box release a while back?

What im getting at, is steam often have free weekends etc.. where you can pre-load a game, then play it for a weekend, then it locks again.

Yes, it is included with the Orange Box (I've got it), but I don't think it came free with the boxset, but was just part of the bundle. I think you have also been able to buy Portal as a standalone game via Steam since release.

I thought so Harrison. Thanks for confirming. ;)

@ bazzaq

I see your point having experienced the same with other Steam releases.

Still, till May 26th is better than a weekend eh? :D

@bazzaq: oh. sorry, didn't know about that... did they inform about that fact in such cases before? because if they did, now they don't, so here's hoping they'll not block it...

@Kinny: well, I wouldn't call it *free*, but yes, it was in the whole Orange Box bundle.

It's quite a nice feature, the free weekends they run, you get to access the full game, rather than a demo. They usually advertise them as "free weekends" with a specific date, you can usually pre-load the game so to start playing as soon as the weekend starts.

It's just the wording on this offer that confused me.. I sent link to a few mates hoping that its totally free and it stays unlocked.

It's amazing how big Steam can get on your Hard Drive. Mine is pushing about 45GB atm making it a real sod to back up to anything other than another Hard Drive.

A good friend of mine is at over 200GB for his Steam Folder.

Madness tbh & just as bad as the HitBox crap Netcode they now use. (n)

The concept of Steam is great, with a single central resource to manage your game licenses and updates, so you never have to go anywhere else to buy, update and play all your games.

In reality I hate it and don't have it installed. I would rather buy a game that requires steam, then "customise" it so it doesn't and can be installed without the need. Much nicer.

^^^^^^

Good strategy m8. No need for colossal back up either.

@ mfilos

Thats my Avatar above m8 & you can find me under the name of ...ing pile of...

You can send a friend request if you like, but I'm not on line much thesedays as the ADSL/Phone wires to my address are a joke. TF2 is pretty much all I play thesedays, but Counter Strike was my roots & my name then was "Kin Hell" :readit:

Portal is a great game, imagine a hi tech krypton factor meets crystal maze, loads of puzzles to work out to get through to the next level.

@Juv, you should give it a go!

I thought it was great. Managed to solve it without any hint in a couple of days.
