Over the years I have sold a few items on ebid auction site and their checkout uses a Paypal alternative called PPPay.com. I had about 40 quid in my PPPay account and just left it there for if I ever wanted to buy something on ebid.
I logged into my PPPay account today to find that all my funds had gone because they had been taking £3.00 a month out for 'dormant account fees' since last October last year.
I admit that it had been a while since I logged in but doing a search on my emails showed no messages from them advising that my account would start to be charged for being dormant. And according to the setting of my PPPay account it is supposed to email me whenever there is a transaction on my account I never received notification when they withdrew their fees either.
I even looked on their website and can't find anything mentioning dormant account fees in the help or in their T&Cs and a Google search doesn't show up anything either.
I have fired off an email to their support in the hope that they will return my money or else since they claim to be regulated by the FCA I will lodge a complaint with them.
I think its ridiculous that they are charging me to leave the money in their account (where they will make interest on it) rather than me drawing it out to my bank. I am no Paypal fan but even they don't charge for dormant accounts. I had money in a Paypal account for 3 years before spending it.
If I do get the money back I certainly won't be leaving anything in PPPay account in the future.
