Recently I bought a near perfect and almost new 1541 drive.
I'm planning to convert this into an external USB Blu-ray Disc Rewriter (slot loading), including an internal 2TB 7.2K RPM HDD (connected to a SATA-III to USB 3.0 bridge interface) as an extra. I'll be using the original power connector and on-off switch. The hole where the fuse used to be will be closed with a black cap. The two data 'ports' are going to be used for the two USB leads and include a black cap with a small (lead) hole in the middle. Both original LEDs will be used for power and BD Rewriter activity.

I'll be uploading shots of the project ASAP. :shhh:

I've done a redesign of the original label of the 1541 drive to be used on the converted drive.

As I don't like the original font Commodore used and needed the same font for the redesign I used a different font more to my liking, as it is a 'future' drive

Other than that, it sounds like a neat project. I look forward to seeing many pictures!
