I have literally 100s of joysticks. All piled in boxes for years. I have no idea which work and which don't. You can connect to a C64, load a program and test 1 by 1. Hot swapping maybe a no-no and the joystick port is fragile too. I was hoping you can buy something, but I've not found anything so far. I guess due to the portable nature, ideal for in your pocket when you are down at the car boot sale or thrift store.

I've knocked up a few prototypes, and the ones that didn't land in the bin I will offer here. You can make yourself:

Ingredients
Buscuit board
D 9 pin connector (I've used recycled C64 joystick ports)
5 LEDs
1 1k ohm resistor
Bits of wire
A 9v block battery connector (not included from me)

Solder them all up and connect battery & joystick and test away.

Alternatively, take one of these:

1) All Red
2) Red & Green for button
3) Green & red for button

Payment
20 euros as PayPal family'n'friends including postage as a letter anywhere in the world (no insurance, no tracking & own risk - add 2.50 euros to get registered mail)

Reply here and please send me a PM with your postal address and which one (1, 2 or 3) your would like.

Standard jousticks are using 5v..
9v can (possibly) damage the circuit on autofire Joysticks. By the way - will autofire function be tested with this?
I think it is better to add a 7805 voltage regulator, just to be sure...

No, this +9vDC won't damage any NE555 timer for the autofire, as the simple circuit is only testing UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT & FIRE to GROUND. Only the LEDs are powered by the +9vDC.

PIN7 (+5vDC) is not connected. Autofire is not tested.

Here is the circuit it anyone wants to make.

Thanks for the diagram, I will build this when I get the time as it will save a lot of hassle when trying out my old joysticks that are probably in need of repair and put to one side
