Hi all, maybe someone can help me.
My neighbour knocked on my door yesterday, first time i've spoken to him other than saying hello since i moved in 4 years ago, and asked me since he'd heard i have a go at fixing problems on pc and laptops maybe i might be able to help him with his TV.
It's a 20" Murphy LCD TV that was purchased about 3 years ago and when plugged in there is no power led on and the tv buzzes but won't switch on.
I opened it up and noticed two leaked caps on the power board.
I went off to maplins and purchased some new caps and replaced the two leaked plus the two others on the board just in case.
Plugged a power cable in and still had no power.
I noticed a power switch on the back so tried to flick it and it just springs back to the off position and won't stay on.
If i hold it in the on position the tv powers up and now works fine with no buzzing so replacing the caps fixed the main problem.
I went back to maplins and bought a new rocker switch and soldered it in place.
Plugged the power cable back in and flicked the switch and got power to the TV and all seemed to be working fine.
However the TV is currently switched on but if i flick the switch to the off position the TV doesn't power off.
So after all that my question is:
It seems my switch will power the TV on but not off, does anyone know why this is or is it meant to be that way?
The switch i bought is identical to this one
