Quick video of me testing an older Motherboard with Tantalum caps [spoiler: something happens]

Hi all,

Just wanted to share with you a quick video I made today. Was looking to test some new stuff I had received and final board for the day was this ECS S54P-AIO Socket5 Motherboard. Immediately as I got it in my hands I noticed the Yellow round Tantalum caps. Usually these have the tendency to short out and pop like a firecracker. I measured with the multimeter and as expected the caps were shorted with and very low resistance. So I put the tripod and started recording the experience:

The board will be sent in the near future to a friend so he can recap it. Hope you learnt something :)
 
Yes they do explode. One did that on my old GVP spectrum board which has not been powered in 10 years.
Tantalum are in great number on boards such as the Blizzard PPC. I don’t dare try mine again because of that.

Unfortunately my A600 mobo has been recapped with tantalum.
