A500 with 1mb chip ram to start you off, NO HDD or AGA graphics. replace floppy with gotek and / or CPU socket fastram / cpu / ide upgrades lots of home projects easily upgraded cheaply.

less likely to have faults or the need for recapping just to use it, should work out of the box.

A1200 needs recapping , expansion only via trap door. ( pcmcia too slow for ram ) , built in IDE interface but expensive to upgrade , not many home projects but has 2mb chip ram , faster cpu and AGA graphics. smaller foot print.

A600 same spec as A500 but built in IDE easily expanded to 2mb chip ram, expensive cpu / ram upgrade's NO aga and NO numeric keypad, very small form factor will also need recapping and or keyboard membrane.

If you like BIG box stuff then start off with an A2000 ( a500 in a big box with zorro ( look like ISA ) slots )

the A4000 is a big box A1200 and suffers the same re-capping or battery leaking the A500+ has.

Agree with the above, to pick up and play the A500 is perfect, if you want a longer term project with more potential then the A1200 but again as above will need some maintenance and upgrades can start to get expensive. Good luck!

More or less same advice as the two above.

A500 1MB chip, gotek, some game/other disk images and maybe a joystick and see if this is something for you. If you buy it working and tested, this setup doesn't need much maintenance and relatively affordable. Workbench will be a bit barebones but disk games will run fine.

With some more cash to burn an A1200 with a CF card for a harddrive, 030 accelerator with at least 8MB extra RAM, but you will have maintenance issues like recap and so, but a good mid range setup. You will have a chance to run a nicer OS (Workbench) setup with higher resolution and more colors, games (via WHDLoad) will load and run faster and more conveniently, nicer demos etc..

Perhaps watch some youtube videos first of these two setups to see what to expect. For more hands on experience, configure and run these two setups in WinUAE.
