The answer is yes, but even with a resolution of 192 * 64 in black and white without sound it is not even decent.

Have taken mpeg 4 files and compressed them to mpeg 1

Do I need original mpeg 1 files or can I just forget the whole project?

Anybody have experience with this?

My System is AGA 030 50MHz, with plenty of ram

Hmmmm, I created some AVIs a few years back that ran well in Action (OS 3.9).... this was on a 50 MHz 030 A1200 with 128mb fast ram.

They ran quite nicely but it took some playing around to get the best compromise between playback quality and file size.

From memory I used Cinepak codec with uncompressed wav sound in 8 bit mono at 22500 hz. The video was about 200 x 160 in about 15 frames per second (enough to look reasonably smooth in most situations) and was displayed in a window on my WB which ran in 32 colours. With dithering and a carefully selected palette it looked quite good.

Hope this helps.
