Dear all,
Some time ago I've acquired a SCSI multicard reader and build it in an external case. I've connected this one to my GVP-A530 SCSI controller with a SCSI2SD internal drive and daisy chained a SCSI Zip drive externally at the end of the chain and therefore is terminated. From the start I could read (already prepared) CF cards, however, I could not change partitions, format let alone write to it.
I've initially searched within my SCSI setup and changed attached drives, changed their positions, changed termination etc. without any luck. Also used several CF cards from 512MB, 2GB, 4GB and 8 GB. Non of these worked properly except reading.
A smart ass friend mentioned: "it is called a card READER", but I know they can write too ;-)
After some digging on the Internet, I found out that there is a firmware that specifically allows only READ and that the latest firmware v1.28 would allow READ/WRITE. Nice.. But where to get the firmware from and also the flashing procedure.
I've found out that Mechy was a seller of these particular card readers in the past and I've reached out to him. Afer some period of silence, he responded on Amiga.org (https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=75484.msg854326#new) and posted a link to where the necessary files are hosted: www.a4000t.com/pcd
The flashing procedure is pretty straight foreward:
You would need a Windows PC installed with a Adaptec 2940 SCSI card and Windows XP.
I've set the SCSI-ID to 1 on the multicard reader
Started the Flash utility
Pressed START
Job done...
I'm now the proud owner of a multicard READER/WRITER!
