The ZX-81 has the excellent ZXPand SD interface and I think that it is soon going to support the Z80 as well.

The BBC & Acorn Electron also use the GoMMC interface for MMC storage

dont think you'd need a big SD card for the zx80 or 81 :-)

C64/C128 also have the uIEC (Retro Innovations) and the 1541 Ultimate(II). Both are excellent devices.

VIC-20 can also use the uIEC and the Final Expansion 3.

Why don't we have a list of all these somewhere ?

I'll do a review of my lovely ti99 cf7 when I get it sorted, can't wait :-)

But, does the uIEC/SD2IEC/1541U counts as HD controllers? They are saw by the computer as a floppy unit of sorts (emulating the floppy/cassette).

@Rogerio

Retro Innovations used to sell a version of the uIEC that had IDE ports but it doesn't look like it is still available. However, all versions of the (u)IEC devices have a sort of Hard Drive mode. You CD into the sub-folders and move around the folder structure like you would a hard drive. The 1541U-II supports this type of a mode but I mostly use the 1541U-II as a disk drive emulator and the uIEC for the hard drive type emulation. :)

Hi zaxon

Can you please add some details on the new atari 8 bit SIDE device? Are you selling them / any links you can provide as well as the pic? Cheers and sorry for adding Q's to the thread

The original question was

"What 8 bit computers now have SD / CF load options or IDE?"

Floppy emulation .. doesn't that count for SD/CF load option?

Vectrex has vecflash ( USB prgrammable cart) and atari 8-bit also has various flash carts ( ie atarimax and several others)

Ok not quite cf or sd but similar effect :)

I know of at least 1 person who has n HxC working well with Memotech SDX and FDX units.
So you can add that to your list.

Hi

Just got to mention - few things and ask a question !

Zaxon's SIDE for atari that he mentioned looks rather interesting, a post is on atariage about it. Could be rather special.

And I can second the retroclinic USB/cf solution for the BBC mentioned above. I have one and It's superb. he ( mark?) also sells BBC reproduction manuals btw but that's another topic :) )

Id love to know - is there any decent cf or sd solution for oric? At all?

I modded my Z64 with an IDE-SD yesturday, Amiga's do like cf=ide and sd-ide also. Seems I bought a few to many hence the mr.backup mod :P
