Hi,

I am after my recent attemps the lucky owner of a ppc and bvision system.

Quite happy with that, but it has a cf card and I am not a big fan of that, due to its performance. Sysinfo gives 2.xx wich I ..

I saw 2 options in default 1200 case:

Get a scsi ppc cable to 50 pins sold at amigakit and see if I can fit hd in it.. wich will give me a large hard drive to put away or I can mount the external scsi port somewhere and use an external box wich I have..

Get a elbox fast ata, but is it really that fast? There is not much to be found exept the official explanation...(wich i do not trust) I would love this solution, but any experience with it? What does sysinfo report about speed?

Hi Jurgen,

FastATA is indeed the fastest solution, up to 9mb/sec with PFS3 and SSD/7200rpm HDD but it will not fit with Blizzard PPC, this is why I fitted the IDEFix Express

So best option, since you have fully working SCSI is to grab this cable from Amigakit:

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=180

Then you can use SCSI-IDE converter & CF-IDE solution (or just 2.5in SCSI HDD)

You should get circa 5-6mb/sec off the SCSI II

It might also be possible to get converters for the cable I supplied, its Micro50db...

Steve.

Steve,

Could you please explain me some more about this:

I am really in the dark wit that.. Why it does not fit etc? What hits the board(s)?

thanks mate:thumbsup: I am just trying to get the most out of it..

jurgen,

Hi My Friend,

As you can see in my diagram below, when both BVision and FastATA are fitted they overlap:

A1200BPPCFastATA.jpg

The only way to fit both is to use Rom Risers on the FastATA but then the FastATA get in the way of the Keyboard.

So really its not a great solution as you wont be able to close the case anymore unless you cut part of the Keyboard away :butcher

I was intending to use SCSI on this system but decided the IDEFix Express was fast enough for my needs.

Steve.

Ouch clear info:bowdown::bowdown: Cannot be much clearer.. This is great

A c64 keyboard can be put higher to enabling more space unther the keyboard, when you cut the screw holes off, Is there the same hack for the a1200?

You're both forgetting one important thing: the BPPC SCSI works in DMA mode, so you get the great bonus of nearly no CPU load during HDD operations.

This, to me, is more important than a bit more speed :)

BPPC SCSI is NOT supported under AOS4.0 and 4.1....

This is correct and why I was going to go this route, I use the BPPC SCSI on my A1200T and its a very nice solution, my OS3.9 setup really fly's

As Stan says, BPPC SCSI is not supported under OS4.1, so you can just use the IDEFix for this, if you decide to try and hack in a FastATA make sure you get MkIII or new MkIV as these are the only models supported by OS4.1 Classic.

I use a dual boot for my setup, BPPC SCSI for OS3.9 and becuase I have Mediator PCI I use PCI SATA for OS4.1 Classic, but would be fine on IDEFix Express

You can use an FastATA with an BPPC+BVision in a desktop case although you'll need to hack keyboard's metal backplate. (check my blog's post somewhere at the middle to understand how it's done: http://mfilos.blogspot.com/2010/03/a1200d-ppc-it-has-began.html)
Idefix Express as Steve said is more clean solution (that's why I replaced my own FastATA with this).
BPPC's SCSI is indeed awesome, fast and without CPU overhead but then you need to hack an ACard inside the miggie as well :)

Many options and possibilities. Just choose whatever you feel best according to your needs and pocket :)

Nice blog, Mfilos power rail and system spotted.

So basically - simply put if I srcew alll the keyboard screws loose and dremel a hole in the metal plate it fits? (and some ducktape) Do Ï need to raise anything, and if so wich type ?

I like Steve his ideas and Stan as well - since os 4 should only be used for testing purposes for now...
