Here's one - what do people think?

I'm interested in getting a hardware SID solution (not emulated) to listen to chip tunes and obviously, I'll need a real SID chip too.

So...

Should I get just a SID (tested and working) or a full C64 breadbin for roughly twice the price which will include the chip but it may or may not have top quality SID output (as I know these fail over time).

The more expensive option would obviously net me a C64 computer as well as the SID, but I'm not sure of how much use it would get - I was never a C64 owner or user back in the day. Spectrum all the way for me, 8-bit wise anyway.

Thoughts??

Cheers all!

Hi RichyV

Hi RichyV

Need to know first what do you need the SID for ?
Is it just to listen to sid musics or to compose ?
I got both things specially.
One is for composing (hardsid4U) and the C64 for collection and to be near my heart (???).
I remember playing at Commando on ZX Spectrum 48K at my friend's.Remember one needed to use keys for 'driving' the little man on the screen and me just pushed 'Fire'.
ZX was very different of the C64,a whole different story but real charming at that time.

No need to discuss all day long it is up to you...
One thing though, wether you buy a Sidchip or a C64 be sure to check it is working .They are a lot of copies outhere (SID).Beware.
And be aware of different versions of the soundchips...very different sound on each chip...

Regards,

Alex
