"Takai desu ne." -"Jinsei da."
Don't know why but I find it extremely irritating, when a sitcom's leading character's first name is the same as the actor's/actress who's playing the character.
By naming the character after the actor/actress the producers/screenwriters are underestimating both the viewer and the actor/actress playing the character. I mean, do they need to emphasize that hey it's THIS person who is starring the show? Yeesh!
I honestly believe that Charlie Sheen, Fran Drescher, Melissa Joan Hart, Ray Romano and others are perfectly capable of memorizing other names than their own. :double Even Bill Cosby's character was Heathcliff Huxtable even though the show's name was Cosby Show. And what about Seinfeld. Well, I suppose it's remotely acceptable, if you're actually "playing" yourself, even though everyone else in the cast is fictitious.
This is one reason, why I don't watch sitcoms anymore.
