SKY Broadband the new 56K Dial Up?

BT broadband customers (fibre, not sure about adsl) get an app free for their mobiles, which allows them to make calls at the cost of you landline. Quite cool, especially as my BT landline has a fixed price anytime calls package that doesn't charge by the call.

Sky Broadband is doing well today and it make for change for once

I've been with TalkTalk for just over a month now and i've not had a single problem :).... I gave up with Virgin Media.

sky broadband have been brilliant for past 2 days and long may continue

Anyone using fibre (FTTC) from Talk Talk, Plusnet, Sky etc are actually all using the BT infinity infrastructure. They all just lease it from Openreach, repackage it and sell it on to their customers. But only BT offers the full 76Mbit bandwidth, and generally caps most leasing companies to 50Mbit.

Yep, I've had no end of bother with my Sky connection. I am going to be speaking to BT next week to see if they can do better. Our internet regularly drops below dial up speeds and makes it utterly pointless. Plus, because we are on an exchange that hasn't been unbundled, we are on their limited "Connect" package, which, as far as they are concerned, we should be grateful just to be able to connect at all.

Sky Connect is an absolute joke, off peak it was great I would get around 900kb down but between 4-11pm I would get around 4.5kb down!

TalkTalk knocked on my door two and a half years ago and have never looked back! Now get 1.2mb down at any time of the day

Tesco broadband offer a good deal; unlimited downloads, speeds as fast as your line will allow, free router, free setup ect

If I remember right, Tesco Broadband runs on the back of the Sky Network.

I asked them about this a couple of years ago. Their broadband runs on Skys network (I *think*, its sure either Sky or TalkTalk) and their mobile service runs on the back of O2. Of course they are both 'virtual' networks in that respect.

I had Tesco Mobile for a year to get a good deal on the iPhone they were offering at the time. I never had any issues with that I have to say.

I've gone to GiffGaff now though. Less than a tenner a month and been flawless so far. That also runs on the back of O2's mobile network.

:)

It is been funny week for my sky broadband and it is running very well !

Long May Continue

Been with sky for over a year now and not one problem from them.

Sky switched me to fibre broadband after i told them my "broadband" connection speed of around 200kbps was fine .......for 1999! Then they reduced my monthly dd so no complaints from me, i've had a steady 36mbps since may

Been with sky for a few years now, had 2 issues with lost connection and no Internet for a few weeks but has been good for the last few months . It's quite cheap too

I got letter from Sky to say that I have joined them from O2 but Sky Broadband is £18 month which I think it is bit too much!

My Server is BT and Broadband package is Sky

Would I be better off Switiching Broadband Package to BT?

BT have some decent offers for new customers so check them out directly or have a look on price comparison or cashback websites

So I'm guessing Virgin media is not available in your area's ?

I'm on 120mb package and get a constant 12mb/sec from my NNTP provider.
It does drop to a lower speed at busy periods but rarely.

It's Kinda peak time but you can see it aint bad.

I've still not had any issues with BT Infinity 2.

Just ran a test:

I can normally hit around 78Mb/s but my server is currently downloading something via torrent and I didn't bother stopping it when I ran this. Always love the 5ms ping. ;)

I do however have to move house this week but luckily I can still get infinity 2 where I've going, but it is probably quite a bit further from the nearest street cabinet so probably will be a bit slower. But we will see.

My Sky contract came to an end last November, so I spoke to BT. My reasoning being that as the exchange is still bundled, and run by BT OpenReach and they are clearly traffic shaping in favour of their customers, that I might as well go with them. Got a guarantee that I would get no less than 4Mb download, day or night, and it was cheaper too.
The switchover went smoothly, and so far I have been running with just under 8Mb day or night without interruption so I am chuffed to bits.
It has made a huge difference, I have even re-subscribed to Netflix. ;)

I've not seen any evidence of traffic shaping on Infinity either, so BT are maintaining that promise it seems.

I've heard this isn't true for some other fibre providers such as Talk Talk, and not sure about Sky. I've also heard that Virgin cable broadband traffic shapes the worst.
