This serves me well:

http://www.birrabrothers.com/tiger/data/samba/download/index.htm

1 ) Download smb-2.2.5 base, and install per instructions
samba-2.2.5-base.lha

2 ) Copy the bin directory to your smb install
samba-2.2.5-bin-2.3-68k.lha

3 ) Download smbfs
2000-12-13_smbfs-1.40.lha

4 ) Copy smbfs to samba:bin

5 ) Add your NAS or share to hosts in your tcp ip stack

6 ) Create a shell script call it what you like, mine is:
run >NIL: samba:bin/smbfs device=sm0: volume=sortbox: workgroup=OSLO service=//sortbox/volume_1
Give it an icon, set C:IconX to handle it.

(STEP 7 to 9 CAN BE SKIPPED IF YOU DON'T need PIPE SUPPORT)

7 ) Download andy finkels shell tools
finkelshelltoo.lha

8 ) Install to C:

9 ) ED S:User-Startup, add:
set _pchar="|"

10 ) create a unmount script
break | status com="smbfs '//sortbox/volume_1'"

The script above doesn't work, use this:
run >NIL: C:break `status COM="smbfs '//sortbox/volume_1'"`
Give it an icon, and set c:iconx to handle it.

Now what you have here is a simple way to access your shares from your amiga.

My disclaimers were wrong. Break doesnt take pipe well. So I've changed it a bit.

You only need the smbfs executable in order to mount smb/cifs shares on the Amiga.

I use this a lot myself, very handy. Running the actual samba server on the Amiga is painful and pointless.

Oh, and you really ought to use the newest version. The old ones are not compatible with current versions of the Samba server.

For me, just the Samba handler in the L: drawer did the trick. :)

That's a different approach, you need to use a mountlist or dosdriver in that case.

I've tried all the different samba approaches I could find, the smbfs I linked above was the only stable and annoyance free solution for my computers. :)

I'll test it out, my version is unstable when dismounting.
