As the title says, my Socket 775 uber Quad Core is up for sale. It's a Retail boxed version & has a good 18+ months of Intel Warranty left on her. I include the original box & it's totally un-used Heatsink/Fan. Here's hard proof of her capabilities.

Linky

That's a 61% over-clock folks.

EverestCacheMem.png

The CPU was Water Cooled at the time of the Validation. Your setup may not give the same results or you might see 4Ghz if your setup is better. I can get to the desktop @ 4Ghz, but she is not stable to run apps or games. Being energy efficient, it's rated @ 95 Watts instead of 130 Watts & the lower power consumption makes her more of an over-clocker. :D

I'm asking £125.00 Including Signed for Special Delivery to UK mainland. I will need to check International rates should anyone enquire.

Re: FS: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

E8500 dual core (still out performing the lower end quads for gaming)

from the Overclockers website

"The E8500 still performed like a champ on the X38 based board I tested it on; and I was able to reach a stable overclock of 4.275GHz while only air cooled.

I was able to get to the Windows desktop at 4.52GHz - however it was not stable, and I did not wish to crank Vcore high enough to stabilize it. The Intel data sheet shows 1.46V to be the maximum safe Vcore for the E8500, so I did not want to exceed that by much. 1.468V was enough to get the system stable for all our benchmarks at 4.275GHz." i'm only running at 4.16ghz :(

"Frankly, for a gamer, an E8500 is a better choice than a quad core QX9770 - and it will remain a better choice for a gamer until such time as the games are no longer GPU bound and are extremely multi-threaded - which will not happen for quite a while."

:thumbsup2:

Re: FS: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

Is it worth the extra over an E8400? Those can be overclocked quite far too.

Re: FS: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

for some reason the E8400 seems to struggle getting past 3.4ghz, so for the extra couple of quid the E8500 is the better option

this crazy guy know has a stable confirmed OC @ over 5ghz! madness i tell you pure madness.

Actually Juv, Quad core CPU's are getting much better results with nVidia GPU's. Go read about CUDA too.
My m8's 3Ghz Wolfdale is @ 4.5Ghz with GTX295 & 780i Mobo. Yet my Quad @ only 3.2Ghz is silky smooth compared to m8y's. Just as an example, Guitar Hero III loves the Quad & does not stutter with Star Power all lit up.

Re: FS: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

Hi,

Not sure if i should start a new thread up but i`ve also been clocking a quaddy here and it`s not going as great as expected. Kin / Juv would it be cool to seek some advice from you guys or should i create a thread for it? Background wise it`s a (and don`t laugh) B3 stepping QX6700 on a BadAxe2... :)

Ideally i`d like a G0 Q6600 like this one (lower TDP etc) but the wife would, well you can imagine!

Cheers,

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

This item is no longer available & is sold elsewhere.

@ Brataccas

Over clocking depends on several factors, none of which I know because you haven't said. I will try & help if I can, but need to know exactly what components you have on the rig & please don't forget the PSU. The PSU is the most important factor when over-clocking.

@ Staff

I don't mind helping off this thread, but if the Mods think it should be placed elsewhere, please feel free to chop/hax0r/move accordingly.

Cheers yaw'll,

Kin

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

Seeing as I am the only one to admit this....

:offtopic: :hijacked:

I can get *just* under 4Ghz out of my Celery D352 on an Asrock 775 DualVSTA board; you don't necessarily need a badass motherboard to get a successful overclock. My rig was the subject of overclocking discussions at OS-UK, which is where I first reported getting 4Ghz. Careful cooling and good quality memory helps a lot; I am using Corsair 667Mhz memory.

Why do I foresee a 'peeing up the wall' contest developing in here....?

I don't see a problem with it hanging around here. just give us a shout when you would like it closing ;)

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

@ Kin - Yeah no probs mate, i left all the detail out as i didn`t want to flood this thread with my issues :) But if you insist!

Antec 900 case
Intel D975XBX2 (flashed back to BX97520J.86A.2809.EB as best rev for tinkering/stability)
Intel QX6700 B3 stepping
OCZ Reaper-X (2x2gb) 5-5-5-18 timings
Arc 7 Pro Cooler
POV 8800GT 512mb card
Jeantech Storm 700w Modular (i know it`s not the best but i used it to get a Q6600 g0 to 3.5ghz fine on a EP45-DQ6)

I`ll dig out more of my current settings when i`m home tonight but for now that`s the specs... Oh and i`m seriously considering water at the moment, but again not sure of all the choice out there.

@ Merlin - That`s insane
Cheers,

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

First off, the PSU is not really suitable as it has 3 x 12v Rails. This is every PSU's weakness & the best ones for Overclocking will have a Single 12v Rail with loads of Amps on tap. Multi railed PSU's are not the best option as a Power Supply.

That aside, BadAxe 2was a platform I had & sent back within 4 hours of recieving it. The floppy drive boot times were like 3 or 4 times longer than they should be & for the money I paid at the time, I was having nothing to do with it. Could have just been a dodgey board, but I went nForce instead.
On an overclocking perspective, the board is okay at fatser fsb's due to the natural coolness of the Intel 975 chipset. You might want a fan on the Northbridge if you start turning up the heat. One drawback with Intel based boards, is the inability to run the Ram Async from the CPU FSB. This can hinder your overclock, where you need to choose a Ram Ratio to keep the Ram within it's operating specifications, whilst acheiving a faster CPU speed. Not all RAM ratios will allow you to get the same overclockability from the CPU either. The reasons are the Northbridge timings get dragged into the arena behave & will behave very differently under different ratio settings.

When you are in the Bios tweaking this & that, consider just changing one thing at a time to keep track of what you are doing. Changing lots of things in one go can make more issues than necessary, so tread slowly & write yourself notes to keep track.

Starting with the Bios speeds at default, take the FSB up & leave the voltages at stock. Every 10Mhz or so is a good call & I'm sure you already know where the CPU will go without increasing the Vcore. The ram should switch it's own Ratio in accordance with the SPD timings on the Ram modules, but keep your eye on the Memory speed, just in case.
Some Bios screens will show you the resultant speed before hand.

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

@ Kin - Ok mate, looks like i`ll be changing the psu at some point soon then! Motherboard wise, i have been looking around this afternoon and it`s looks like i will be getting either a XFX 790i, EGVA 790i or an Asus Striker Extreme (not decided yet) but either way it will be a 780 or 790i chipset. I always knew that the 975 is my biggest drawback and i guess it`s time to change. I`ll have a fiddle when i return tonight and get some values jotted down for you to look at.

cheers,

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

Sure thing m8y. Consider one of these puppys or go bigger if you need to. Certainly good enough for a GTX295 & healthy overclock.

RE 780i/790i

I have an XFX 780i here & it's brilliant bar one thing. It's a hot Chipset & I'm not sure if the 790i runs cooler. 790i uses DDR3 which is more expensive than DDR2. Overall, the 790i probably has an edge over the 780i in terms of bandwith/performance.

If you're running RAID0 on an nForce chipset, talk to me about Stripe Size.

Re: SOLD: Intel Duo Quad Core Energy Efficient 95W 2.4GHz CPU

@ Kin - Sure that psu looks good mate, just need to see what budget i have left after the board and possible ddr3 change... At the moment i`m keen on the xfx board, mainly as i have been offered one for £80 but also as the reviews are generally pretty good, heat wise i hope the 790i is cooler ;)

Storage wise i have a 3ware 9650SE-2LP spare so will use that for the two raptor 73`s but if i get a chance i`ll let you know the stripe setup.

Cheers,

Cheers,

In this case, you will need to find out by trial & error if there is no reference in the Manual. nForce RAID is very poor with a 4K Stripe size in the RAID Bios. 15K Stipe size on nVidia bios gives a nice average throughput of around 200+ Mb/Sec on 2 x 7200.12 500GB Baracuda's. The downside for this is upto 15% CPU utilisation, but on a Big Fast Quad, it's nothing to worry about.
Be interesting to see some HDTach screenies from your Rig when complete.
