Hi all

I'm about to get an Amiga once again, and I realize now that at that time, the whole idea of using an lcd was scifi. Since I will hook it up to a monitor, I was wondering which solution would fit my needs (play games and use workbench on a 1200).

I've done some research, and I found that the scan doublers/flickerfix are what I need. There is one internal, called indivision, which is still sold today, but the price is almost half of what the base 1200 would cost :) I understand that it is a good product, but at the same time it cost less to just buy a monitor that support 15KHz at that point.

Then I found 2 other solutions, which are external: one is a box, used as switch for PS2, Dreamcast and so on (they sell it on amazon, it is generic brand; was not able to find any relevant data about the maker); it has an analog RGB in, so I assume that I can use an adapter from the DB23 to DN15, and then plug it into this box and then to the tv via RGB connector...I do not have the amiga so I can't tell if it would work, but I have the box, which I use for my old game systems, so I can give a try as soon as I can get an amiga.

The second solution is a card sold on various places, like ebay, called gbs-8220; which is a card made for arcade cabinets, to replace the CRT monitor with an LCD. Heard that it is pretty good.

Is there any other alternative, to hook up the 1200 to a modern LCD monitor? (mine has the VGA in and the DVI in, samsung sync master B2330) Or this is all that is available? Internal or external makes no difference to me (I have other computers so I can use it with any of them, if it is a generic solution); I just need to be able to work few hours on it without have my eyes bleed, and play some games too.

Thanks!

Add in there the Scan Juggler just being released, the DCE Scan Magic. In monitors the Dell ST24xx series are flat screen LCDs that sync to 15kHz and nice picture.

It's all a bit complicated I'm afraid, and your in the states so that complicates things more.

Are you planning on going PAL or NTSC?

Lots of the external generic RGB/composite to VGA/HDMI converter boxes will give you a pretty crappy display.

Old 15Hz CRT's also look pretty awful in my opinion (some people love them).

The best display I think I've seen was using my Indivision AGA Mrk1 with my old 19" CRT. The Indy Mrk2 puts out a better signal for a couple of WB screen modes but on the whole (until this config tool is finished), the Mrk1 is a much better bet.

As mention above the ScanJuggler may also be an option one day.

If you're luck enough to find a SCART TV, then that can be a great option.

You can also get lucky and find a modern LCD that works pretty good with the A1200's native modes (PAL).

+1 for a Modern LCD TV
My Sharp works fine with RGB to Scart
and with Direct Composite Connections

Thanks for your reply... I knew that Amiga inc had a vision, but they were not able to foresee the future that we have today ;)

I am going PAL probably...can't find any reasonable item in NTSC format, so I guess that I must bite the bullet, and get one from UK or Germany (which seems where all the Amiga went when they died, and then they resurrected :P)

I can't absolutely afford to have a CRT; my desk is not that big and I have already too much heat going on around it; so the CRT is the only option that I cannot consider....at this point I am going for the lcd tv...I used to have a syncmaster monitor that had the digital in for the cable (coax), and the tv tuner...I wish I didn't got rid of it, since I guess that it would be able to hook on the 15KHz frequency. I have a slightly older LCD tv but is a 30 inch....even if it works it is quite humongous on my desk :P

I will skip the adapter then; I thought that the 40 dollars video card was a good deal, better than the composite out. I don't need extra crisp image (also because the tv was the natural anti-aliasing for amiga games; it blurred what otherwise would look blocky and really squared).

I can't get the indivision for sure, unless they put them at prices that are reasonable for me :) Found a couple for 250 UK pounds, which is more or less about 400 USD; a small lcd monitor would cost me a third, until I find one for less.

Sadly no scart here; for some reasons USA decided that they are too cool to go with a single standard, like almost the rest of the world ;)

I will keep an eye on the models that you mentioned; if there is anyone in USA that knows a specific brand and model of lcd tv or monitor, that would sync with the amiga, I would really appreciate to get the name :)

Thanks!
