So recently I've been itching to give Theme Park another go. I have had issues with the AGA WHDLoad version in the past (it's well documented that it suffers from massive slowdown and is basically unplayable) so I gave the non-AGA version a go. I played it for a couple of hours and was doing pretty well, saved it, re-loaded the save state to double check it had saved, but as soon as I exited WHDLoad and tried to load the save again, nothing, it's gone

So I gave up on the WHDload versions and tried to install the floppy AGA version as it was originally intended. It took a good few goes to get it to install properly (due to my floppy drive issue as per my other thread) but finally got it running, and hey presto, the AGA version runs with no slow down :) so I played it for another hour, saved, exited, and... It's gone again. Aaarghh!!

So it looks like not only do neither of the WHDLoad versions work, but the original HD install doesn't work either. Surely this would have been picked up by magazines/the testers when it came out? I know most people used floppies back in 1994, but surely SOME people had HDs and not being able to save would have been a pretty major bug! It seems the only way you can save is to boot from floppy and then create a save disk. I wouldn't mind having it installed and using a floppy to save, but apparently you can't, if it's installed you have to save on the HD.

Surely there must be a way of playing Theme Park on the Amiga without booting from floppy? Don't make me play it on DosBox instead :picard

My AGA and non AGA disk versions work perfectly fine - inc saves on my A1200.

I couldn't get it to install mind and I never played it from WHDLoad...

Yeah it only seems to work from floppy, but my floppy drive is very temperamental, and I'm not sure I have the patience to wait for it to load!

I have the same problem with the AGA version of TP. on both my 1200s - won't install to hd cf card. not tried playing it from floppy - is it awful?

My first 1200 had the same issue when I got it, it wouldn't save games at all - had to take it back to the shop I bought it from for a replacement which doesn't really help in this...

Problem with Paula perhaps?

Once it has loaded it is fine, but because of the intro it takes about 10 minutes and four disk swaps to get to the game which is too annoying in 2014, even for retro gaming :)

just tried on winuae, whdload v 17.1 themeparkaga and save worked.

i can try on real amiga at weekend

You could try the Mac version via ShapeShifter, if you have a Graphics Card for your A4000 then it will really rock, I really enjoy playing these type of Games on my A4000 via Mac emulation, Sim City 2000 was far better on the Mac too, again it rox at 800x600 via my CyberVision Graphics Card :)

Interesting, was the save still there if you exited the game and restarted?

yes and also if i completely exit winuae. i tired with 8mb fast (slower load),64mb fast and with/without my whdload.key every time it worked.

I used play quite lots with that game. What a game that was :)

It had charm and building own fun fair is good fun!

Rollercoaster Tycoon on pc blow me away and the music live me forever :)
