I have been making and selling electronics stuff ever since I managed to use the EE skills I acquired in university with the old computers I love since the early 1980s - that's the Commodore 8 bit computers. This has got to be a first...
Making the TOLB modules for the C64 and C128 with it's super small TSSOP 28 pin chip requires working with a magnifier glass, sometimes even a 20X stereoscope to make sure all solders are fine. Today, I had a very special... and scary... visitor.
While I was carefully picking up the chip and positioning it on the PCB, I suddenly shifted my attention to the soldering iron and and screamed in fear and surprise as I saw a bunch of hairy legs crawl across the wet sponge used to wipe the soldering tip. In a flash, I put back on my normal glasses to see a tiny spider making it's way across the humid surface and realize what seemed like a large scary monster was in fact a small inoffensive insect trying to catch smaller bugs attracted by the humidity in the sponge.
Nonetheless, for just a few seconds, I felt my heart race like I was right in the middle of a genuine horror movie. Then I had a good laugh, of course and crushed the intruder in retaliation for scaring the living daylights out of me.
Anyone ever had a similar incident ?
