In recent weeks, I've had both an offer in a "Wanted" forum I answered and a "Wanted" post I had made, be taken over by another Amibay user that had no interest in actually selling an item to fill the need proffered. In one case, it was inferred that I was either charging too much or offering too much (no price was given, as I understood that this was to occur in a PM - Private Message). In the second case, questions were posed by someone who had no item to offer, but stated that he was meaning to clarify an issue, that, again, could not be asked in a Private Message; I felt that his/her comment had nothing to do with item I needed, and the focus of the "Wanted" post was lost in the flotsam.

Administrators have been watching these threads and their acquiescence have me feeling this is now the norm.

Am I to assume that discussions of items are to occur outside the General Chat Forum, or that an interpretation and/or discussion is needed for what (used to be) simple posts that were based on an item being "For Sale" or "Wanted?"

I agree unless there's something that needs to be pointed out like missing proof of ownership or prices missing members should only be posting in threads with questions if they're interested in the item, bloating threads with tonnes of consumer advice is not only messy it can even cause issues for the seller and tends to become an armchair experts discussion thread.

If you can point something useful out like a model no. Or answer a question in the thread great, that is helpful!

My two cents anyway.

Unfortunately I was the one who the OP is talking about. Please Note: I don’t see any rules on this? So feel free to point this to me. The OP wanted a Voodoo Card. But as I pointed out I had no idea which Voodoo card and for which build the OP wanted this for (My Bad for asking I guess?). I did get carried away on the thread as it was for a “Prometheus” setup. But from my knowledge only supports a Voodoo 3, 4 and possibly 5.
Just to add: I was going to offer the OP a chance to buy one of my spare Voodoo 3 cards or even a Voodoo 4. But had to ascertain if this was wasting their time.

For those wanting to see this thread then it’s here. But the OP has now edited it from the original:

For fairness. The OP has added his view in this wanted thread:

🤔 Pot calling the kettle?…….

It's not any one person, a lot of us (myself included) have been guilty of getting involved in threads we don't need to and there's been a lot of clutter as of late. Don't take it personally let's all just think before we type and if we're not interested in an item there's no need to post a list of questions, if someone is, they're quite capable of asking themselves or doing their own research.

We have recently warned certain members not to continue with this type of behaviour.

Agreed and this is acceptable.

Firstly, one of our Admin have been dealing with a death in the family and the others have busy jobs and family to put first.

Some of the unwanted chitchat, opinions and bickering in the For Sale threads as of late have been addressed but, some have not. These threads will be taken care of and this will never be the norm.

As a follow-up to the complaint/comment made, vide supra, asking for an item that is copy protected (the Kickstart ROM) and without the accompanying source (the AmigaOS3.2 CD) poses a legal and ethical issue - again not commented on by the moderators in this discussion. If it was not evident, this comment by me was to: 1) allow the "Burn-In Service" to proceed, and 2) prevent that OP to not be censured.

The comment I made, in no way, was to hijack the thread for my own gratification to show that I possessed what I thought was a greater knowledge on the subject as an act of self-aggrandizing.

Now, in that latter view, I've owned a G-Rex A4000 PCI board, an original Prometheus board (both sold to Hesse in the past), and several Mediator boards, with the last sitting unused in my A4000T. I didn't see a need for further enhancement of my knowledge base in an open post; while I could have attempted my prevention of a censure of another user by the Administrators in a PM, I don't feel that I was attempting to prop up my ego, or do anything more than an Administrator would have done in a less than good-natured way.

This forum of General Chat is the place for open discussion, not what used to be a simple request to buy or sell an item.

The point I was making from this post you have created. Is you have had your say in a “Wanted” thread. Please feel free to carry on digging your hole…..
and wow! You sold to Hesse… good for you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Respect isn’t given. It’s earned…. In other words. I don’t care! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Comments in for sale or wanted threads. if i see them i delete them. We are not here 24/7 and the report button does great job in highlighting our attention is needed.

Random comments like “hey nice setup if i had the money” just serves to pollute the thread and artificially bumps the thread avoiding the 14 day bump rule.

Even worse and a trend we are trying to stamp out is the unwanted advice. “Hey i noticed that the item you’re selling you haven’t warned your buyers that you’re using the wrong version with that” or “the pcb you’re using isn’t fc approved and not within company specs”. Remember a lot of these projects wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for those few who give so much of their time creating projects like the terrible fire range etc and eventually some open source their projects or from the very start fantastic.

This advice as I suggested to the below member was to take it to pm to voice concerns or give advice privately. But alas. The keyboard warrior wanted his voice in public.

The king of this was a member here who made items but gave “Advice” to his competitors in open forum basically product bashing.

Wanted threads are a little different and sometimes require more info compared to a sales thread.

So selling. Amiga 500 1.3, working for £xxxx with at least 1 photo is sufficient

But

Wanted. Amiga preferably an a500 and working fdd.

Opens a few questions on specifics but not advice

We are a forum that brings together 2 or more individuals to sell/buy or trade items in a relatively safe place. No ads. No involvement in the payment process.

We ask that anything traded or sold here doesn’t break copyright laws but can be confusing due to regional laws etc. so when it’s brought to our attention that someone is using or abusing someone else’s project / software etc that’s not up to us but it’s up to the owner of the said copyright to contact the seller.

We only get involved with absolutely obvious issues like backup software ( like a box full of amiga disks or roms ) . Burnt eprom chips or software missing is licensing etc.

We do what we can but we ain’t F.A.C.T or copyright/ fair licensing police.
