I cant even pay Pay Pal as they only Accept

Debit or credit card

And that Suck Doesnt it

Are you upset because you can't pay your TV Licence via Paypal? Seems an odd thing to complain about... Now complaining about there being a TV Licence in the first place. That's much more of a meaty rant!

Tv license is a funny old debate. I still reckon that it's a worthwhile thing. I know that the beeb make a shed load of money from selling their shows abroad, which could help the argument against...

But I pay Virgin media a fortune in comparisom and honestly, I think there's more quality on bbc1 and 2 than on any twenty of their channels.

Or am I a reactionary old fart who resents change, even when it could save me £100+ a year?

:help:

Would be nice if I could pay TV Licence on pay pal because it is quicker to pay off and forget about year even thought there only HALF Season of F1 Next Season which is

The program I watched are

TOP GEAR
GADGET
MATCH OF THE DAY
F1
Some of the FLIMS that I havnt seen before even thought they are REPEAT!:lol:

I've never paid for a TV license and I never will.

The licensing people pop round every so often and are always amazed that I actually let them in to my house where they are even more amazed to discover that I don't watch TV in my house!

I do watch all of my favourite series, but as they can all be obtained on DVD I prefer to watch them at my own pace instead of sticking to a TV schedule. Frankly the only thing the BBC produces is wildlife documentaries and they are so good that I own all of Mr Attenboroughs stuff on DVD.

Still I'm sure that when he retires the BBC will replace his documentaries with "Vote for your favourite animal by SMS!" like 90% of the other total crap that is produced these days.

LOL, I had a rant last year. 165+ TV channels on Virgin Media, most of which have adverts and I have to pay a further £145 for a TV license to get 4 or 5 extra channels without Ads. I also enjoy watching the nature and wildlife stuff which is available on Nat' Geo' anyway.

i used to be against the TV license but to be honest the BBC is the best in the world at quality TV programs and the have the very best documentaries and wild life shows as well as science and radio.

but i am puzzled why it cannot finance its self. TopGear and the Wild life things are huge earners abroad for the beeb and are repeated everyday on DAVE.

If the top money earners took less the perhaps it could?

I went to POST OFFICE and pay full whack and forget about it for year.

My dad say I should pay monthly but I dont the hassle!

We have TV license here in norway as well. Ours are a nice 314 euro a year which probably ought to make you stop complaining ;)

But for that we get some channels which because it doesn't need to please the biggest crowd all the time actually send something else than whatever is popular in usa. While every other channel has at any time some crap from usa, the license-financed channels has in general the highest quality of the national channels. Not that the youngsters care, they just want to watch the popular stuff anyway, which is the reason the other channels fills up with crap.

Watch everything you want for free on the website using iplayer as long as you dont watch it as it's transmitted you do not need a license.

I didnt know you can do that but I have 32 inches HDTV and PS 3 Console....

So does mean IF I dont want TV Licience then I must get rid of HDTV?

if you dont watch broadcasted stuff when on and just dvds, downloaded stuff or gaming you dont need one

have a read here

No TV? Don't watch or record television programmes as they're being broadcast on any device? The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and DVD/VHS recorders.

not needed if
No TV Licence is needed if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch programmes on your computer after they have been shown on TV. If this is the case, please let us know, as this helps us to keep our database up to date and means you won't receive the standard letters we send to unlicensed addresses.

Yep depsite what they try and let you thuink unless you are watching a current broadcast then you dont need a liscense one of the many reasons i told them to stick it. As already mentioned iplayed does not require one and generally the few programs i watch i tend to download anyway tp watch at my convienience.

They also have to prove u been watching it
golden rule
no evidence no case goes for most court appearances

The last time the license people came round I let them in and I was watching "Ashes to Ashes" on DVD on my Samsung HDTV.

"That on DVD?" They asked and went away. No bother from them for the last year.

I still can't believe you guys have to pay for over the air TV now
a days with Cable TV and satellite TV I guess they still make enough
money to do it..

:coffee:

As tempting as it is to throw away the saterlite dish and just download everything - I'm gonna need it now the bloody F1 has gone to Sky Sports. I'm one of those (bit like Justin) who has to watch it live... Sad I know!

Back on topic, I just object to HAVING to pay the BBC a licence whether I watch their channels or not. I think the Beeb should be funded by general taxation since they are basicly a Government department in all but name.

£3.6 Billion a year is what the BBC gets from the TV TAX Payer

.... yeah.... just say that with me..... £3.6 Billion Pounds per year!

and £500 Million Pounds is paid to the TV Licensing Agency to collect that Money

.... yeah.... just say that with me too.... £500 Million Pounds per year!!! just to collect money!

there is absolutley no way anyone could be as blind to think that what you get is value for money......

£3.6 Billion Pounds per year...... ..... and that garanteed for the next 3 years as well!!!!

this doesn't include monies from outside sources like merchandising, DVD and Show licensing sales

Interesingly there are aproximately 9.5 Million Children attending aproximately 25,000 schools the UK, if one was to divy up that gross disproportionate cost of the BBC that would give each school an extra - £144,000 per year. As a national average (highly debated) an average teachers salary is aproximately £26,000 per year if you read between the governments figerious lines, still that would be enough to pay for another 5 and a half teachers for each school in the country!!!

Alternatively one could look at the 482 NHS Hospitals across the United Kingdom, again divying up that disgustingly gross payment to the BBC - it would give each NHS hospital a further £7,468,880 ( 7.4 Million Pounds ) - thats nearly enough for an extra 300 Nurses for each Hosptial (with an expected average salary for a nurse in the UK at aproximately £25,000) - arguably the disproportionate cost of the BBC could pay for another 144,000 nurses for a year, on top of the existing 408,000 existing Nurses across the UK (thats over a 25% increase in possible care!!!)

When we are in a time of drastic health cuts and national debts, why is it the BBC has had a 30% pay rise over the last 4 years?

Did you know that a Senior Manager's yealy cost is £17.6 Million Pounds, this works out to an average pay of £150,427 per year and last August, the Pay and Bonus's were Unfrozen... so its probably a little higher now ;)... Interestingly the BBC has spent £212 Million this year on "Talent"....

Sorry.... I dont see the Value for money..... All I see tired recanned shows, tired formats, pointless repeats or those cheap shows bought in from the US/Austrailia

IMHO - The License should be drastically cut, to something in the £50 region, brought down to one or two channels (not the better part of a dozen!). Then the system should supliment itself with advertisment and its primary premise should be inform, educate and only once that is done properly - then entertain!
