Hmm, that is for 'Chicago' or Windows 98 though, isn't it? I thought Win 98 drivers weren't compatible with XP.

I'll give it a try though. Do you think it might work in compatibility mode?

To be honest I've no idea but it could be worth a try

I still can't understand why the CD won't work

As a matter of interest, have you tried installing it the other way round?

IE, extract the setup files to a folder that's safe & then use the windows new hardware found boxes to point to the extracted files.

That's the problem, Charlie in that the scanner isn't plug-and-play; it isn't detected as new hardware so the Add New Hardware Wizard isn't triggered.

I'm going to try the file provided by Dave and see how I get on, by installing it as a 2200U (USB) version via the Add New Devices in the Scanners and Cameras part of Control Panel.

Not tonight though, as I'm off for the works Christmas Dinner in a bit....:woot:

I'd be a bit concerned if Windows completely fails to notice a USB device being plugged in at all. If Windows doesn't see the device, you'll struggle to make any drivers work with it.

It may sound obvious, but have you tried different USB ports/cables? Any USB device should bring up the "Found new hardware" dialogue, even if it just says "unknown device"

AndyLandy is quite right. Anything powered up on the USB should get seen. You can still add new hardware from Control Panel even if WinBlowS does not detect New Hardware automatically, & then you should point it to the files you extracted. ;)

As I said to you on the phone, you might have to go to the Scanner Properties to set it pointing to a USB port manually. I recall something sinister like this with my old UMAX some 8 years back now.

As a last resort m8, you could buy a more upto date model for peanuts now.

Astra 2100U Problem

I had to buy a software update. If you go to the Umax site, they have a page to help you install. There were 2 drivers & I had to choose the driver that wasn't digitally signed. I import from Adobe Image Ready and it seems to work fine now. I was going to give up, too.
