I'm thinking about Using an Amiga with OS4.1 for daily work instead of a PC or MAC. By this I mean using it for your job such as word processing to bring in documents, digital art creation for making posters and leaflets for local events going on such as live music and the internet for communicating such as email and making websites. Your printed labels or slogan could say 'Made By Amiga'. ;)

Better use an A4000 with AmigaOS 3.9. There are massive of software applications (and plenty of hardware) there for all tastes.

Agreed, I would stick with 3.9. I'm hoping that once my Vampire 2 gets in, it will be good enough for casual everyday use with 3.9. Web browsing is about the only real concern I have (is NetSurf the way to go, and would it work fast enough?)

Yes, I think www is an issue, even with the Vampire. JS is not running optimally in any OS3.9 browsers and you also have a problem with SSL being outdated, effectively locking you out from many sites. If you think that a 200MHz Pentium running Win95OSR2 is too old and slow, then a Vampire system would also not be enough. The Vampire is fast in Amiga-world, but not in our current PC world. :)

As above, so many reasons why it's a non-starter. Websites are so dependent on javascript these days that no Amiga browser is up to the job, unless all you want to browse is Aminet. Is there any Amiga software that can open modern productivity formats such as docx, PSD etc? And what about IM, IRC isn't much use while all your colleagues and friends are on Skype or Facebook.

I guess if you live in a bubble then you could get by, but in the modern world where collaboration and sharing are part of everyday life, it makes zero sense.

Those are reasons not to use an Amiga at all. I was wondering why amigaos 3.9 was advised over amigaos 4.1

Yes I would never use my MorphOS Mac mini as a daily machine (I don't have any amigaos 4 capable hardware) but that MorphOS box is closer to daily usable than my accelerated 1200 with 3.9? Just curious about how come 4.1 was deemed less usable as a daily machine.

My daily machines are my hexacore Mac Pro (the last ever aluminum one) and my hateful lenovo work provided laptop.

Sorry I was actually referring to comraider's post, not yours. There's plenty of reasons to use an Amiga, just not for daily productivity. I treat my Amiga a bit like a weekend car - a 1920s Rolls Royce makes no sense for the daily commute.
