I've got an old Compaq Armada laptop equipped with Pentium 2 and whopping 96 MB of memory. On the 4 GB hard drive I've got Windows XP SP3 running. The laptop has a sole purpose of writing floppy disks in retro formats. Some of the programs require XP as OS so I have to use that even though it is painfully slow to get running and use.

Now I have an SD to IDE 44-pin adapter and an 8 GB SDHC card and since I don't have to do an extensive amount of write cycles on this thing I was thinking that I'd use the SD card as my hard disk. Does using the SD card via the adapter give me any performance benefit besides the larger capacity?
