The VIC-20 with PET style keyboard and the VIC-1001 are NOT the same thing at all.
The VIC-1001 has a japanese character set built into it and was sold only in Japan. Its firmware is also different from all VIC-20s.
I have a VIC-20 with PSK and it has squarish keys and weighs a ton because it has a built-in 5V regulator and uses a 2 prong power supply. However, the character set and the ROMs are the same as those of later VIC-20s.
Early PSK VIC-20s have the same internal mainboard as the VIC-1001 but the name tag on either machines clearly indicate what they are; VIC-20 or VIC-1001. Only the VIC-1001 has japanese symbols on its keys too.
A PSK VIC-20 is worth about 150$. The VIC-1001 is a rarity that can sell in excess of 500$.
