Voodoo and WHDLoad causing a black screen

So after googling my eye balls out I've decided I must admit defeat and see if there's some resident guru's that can help

I've even registered with Elbox, but haven't heard back from them. Not sure what's up with that.

But anyway, I have the legendary issue of a black screen when switching from RTG to native :-(

The only two games that work are Silkworm and SWIV.

My config:

Amiga 1200, Apollo 060 @ 80MHz, Subway USB, Mediator TX, Indivision AGA Mk2, Voodoo 3, SB128, Realtek NIC, Radeon 9200, Fast ATA, kick 3.1 / 3.9.

Prolly other items I've forgotten.

If I disable the Voodoo card all games run great, as soon as the Voodoo card is enabled wham black screen again.

I've tried:

Voodooinit=No - Man this really slows the Amiga down :-/
FakeNativeModes=No

I've followed the guide here: http://warpclassic68k.blogspot.fr/p/ma-config.html

Even installed the same library versions.

I went back to WHDLoad 6.9, then 7.1, even 7.2. I've registered WHDLoad BTW.

Ive tried picasso96 v2.0, b, and c.

I've tried reinstalling AmigaOS3.9.

Reading on the WHDLoad page the Voodooint issue was resolved.

As I've said if I disable the Voodoo all is well, I can even leave the Radeon in the machine and use the extra fast RAM as long as the Voodoo is disabled.

My final test will be to use the Radeon on it's own as the main RTG card, but don't really want to loose the Warp3d stuff.

Anyway will post more what I find out, but open to suggestions

Knew I forgot something I also use the Roadshow TCP stack. Yes both the TCP stack and Subway are unloaded before WHDLoad start as I'm using the startup/cleanup scripts.

Which work fine with the Voodoo disabled.

I've also tried the NOAUTOVEC option :-(

i have a similar setup hear and have no problems whatsoever.

i'll try some games that dont work for you if you mention them,but i suspect its something in your software setup causing problems and not hardware.

lha your DH:0 and upload it so he can try out your installation to rule out the hardware

Remeber to remove all the pr0n before you do it

Okay have rebuilt from scratch, the screen switches over (the RTG screen goes black) and the native display remains black.

Using Picasso96 2.1b now as it apparently 100% compatible with the Voodoo driver.

Have installed the latest UP CD from Elbox.

I'm using pci.library v10.

Does anyone have a working Voodoo/Radeon setup? Perhaps I'm missing a tooltype?

Also, try disabling your USB stack before running a game. I need to disable it on my machine or else I get the same issue (I use Poseidon with a Deneb).

Doesn't happen with all games, for example R-Type will run, but other games don't.

Thanks Mark, yeah I have the Roadshow TCP stack and Subway disabled using the whdload-startup/cleanup scripts

Which works great with the Voodoo disabled.

I can have the Voodoo disabled and still see the extra RAM from the Radeon and WHDLoad works fine.

As soon as I use the Voodoo bam back to black screens. Although SWIV/Silkworm/Nexus 7 Demo work fine LOL.

Going to run snoopdos again and post the result when WHDLoad runs, maybe that will help

So the only difference I can see between the working games and those that fail is:

Working game:

FindPort lowlevel.library OK

Failed game:

FindPort lowlevel.library Fail

I've given up on this ;-) So my workaround is to switch to an AGA screenmode and use WHDLoad and then switch back to using the Voodoo RTG for everything else.

Rather play games than spend anymore hours on this, wasted a good 3 weeks off and on.

Thanks for the help though, it's much appreciated.

Just an update on this, I've managed to get it switching fine except when it switches back to RTG the Amiga locks up.

So three fingered salute and then start again.

Try to run your Apollo under 70mhz.
When I was running my blizzard 060 over 70mhz I had many problems with the mediator and RTG : software failure, graphics were corrupted, random freezes...

At 70mhz everything was stable.

Hmm will have to source a slower crystal.

It's only when I exit a game now, workbench will freeze. It will switch to AGA/native display fine which it wasn't doing before.

I don't get any corrupt graphics or freezing while playing games with WHDLoad + Voodoo.

I removed everything from startup-sequence/user-startup and WBstartup but still does it.

I'm slowly working through using PVS etc disabling/enabling items so will see how that goes.

i dont have any problems with mine from 80-100mhz.

i suspect its something other than the accelarator.

That's what I was thinking. Tried running snoopdos but because workbench freezes I can't see whats happened.

I do notice that I don't see any pop-up errors from WHDLoad, but I still get error pop-ups elsewhere in Workbench.

Thought it might be MCP but removing that hasn't changed much.

Might try and get WHDLoad to do an error log
