Hello,

Just a quickie, I have bought myself an A1200 to have a play with, was going to put a CF card inside and an accelerator plus network card in the pcmcia port.

Noticed on turning it over that it still has its warranty sticker in place. is there any market for this in regards of the purists etc?

Am i better of swapping this (for preservation sakes) with someone for one that i can fiddle with?

its boxed but came without PSU and has an a520 (!!?) in the box with a 3rd party mouse

or is it a pointless exercise and should i just enjoy popping that warranty sticker and get on with sticking that cf card in.

We can't state prices but I can't say i've noticed a massive difference TBH. If that is the case then one has to assume the caps are well past their best so if it's broken if anything that should be a good thing as it has had some attention. I have one stock 1200 (2 if you include the Escom one) that is also unpoened but the only reason that is is that im just using it as a spare.

If you want to upgrade it then i'd just go ahead with it, it deserves to be used and to be made more useable.

You should mock those people, I certainly do!

First thing I do with any Amiga is open it up. Screwdriver straight through the warranty seal, no second thoughts. There are even replacement warranty stickers floating about, so you can never be sure it's genuinely still sealed anyway.

I have one question; what warranty, after all this time has elapsed?

Any warranty this machine had lapsed about 25 years ago, so I wouldn't worry about it. You can't fit a hard drive into an A1200 without breaking the warranty seal, anyway.

My thoughts exactly

Yeah but we're talking about a A1200, the very first of which came out late 1992? or am I wrong?

Actually, you're quite right. The first warranties wouldn't have expired until 1993, so in 2013, it's about 20 years. :)

It really doesn't matter anymore because

a) All Amiga's will now be out of warranty (unless you paid for a 25 year extension in 1990).
b) All Amiga's will probably need PCB work doing on system boards (caps and the like).
c) Replica Warranty stickers have been introduced which devalues the 'purist' market to zilch :picard
