Hi all,

I've got a problem with my A600 trapdoor RAM expansion - it's not recognised at all. I've tried reseating the expansion, reseating the chips etc.
There's no sign of any damage to the expansion at all.

Symtoms are: the RAM does not get added and intermittent lockups (usually results in a guru meditation/software failure)

Is there any programs I can run on the Amiga to test the RAM (maybe a faulty stick?) or should I throw it and get another RAM expansion?

The expansion says 'Marpet Technologies' (iirc) on the bottom and has four RAM sticks that are removable.

It sounds like one or more of the RAM chips are faulty on the card, if it doesn't appear in the top Workbench screen then there's something wrong unless it doesn't 'auto-allocates' which seems unlikely.

The RAM board always used to auto-config - but now WB does only shows only around 600KB remaing (approx.) when booted. Also, SysInfo does not show the RAM board at all.

The marpet is well known for bad contact. Check the needles on the expansion slot and try to make then more tight to insert in the A600 edge connector.

Right - I've tried to make the connection tighter on the marpet (tried to pull the pins inwards a bit) and also cleaned the contacts on the A600 motherboard - still no joy.
Removed and reseated the RAM sticks (cleaning contacts along the way)

Could it be a duffer?

Go to Amiga Installer's Heaven and download the image of Amiga Analyzer Disk (DMS).

Un-DMS it to a floppy using another Amiga and check the chip memory (five passes or more). If you find a consistent error in a memory region, then you have a duff 256k SIMM.
