I know life sucks when you miss out on some HW you want from this forum....

Can someone shed some light as to the linking of Wanted vs For Sale? Some time ago, I placed a wanted add for an item, and was merrily waiting for someone to contact me if they had it for sale. Low and behold, I am away for a day, and someone list the very thing I am after and I miss out as an 'interested' is already logged against the item.

Now I can hear you all saying boohoo, tough t's but as the forum rules for sales and wanted items are very strict (for example, I cannot post in someone else's wanted, that I also want one), it kind of makes a mockery of the whole wanted forum does it not?

Am I just misguided as to think that someone selling an item could afford the decency to check the wanted first (you know, all of 10 seconds to perform a search?)

There is nothing misguided in your thoughts about this. Some people don't check to see if there is somebody looking for an item that they have in their possession. Even a simple search can achieve the same thing without all the clicking thru pages of Wanted ad's

Yes, some do actively search the Wanted areas before proceeding to post their For Sale advert. But unless more sellers are willing to spend a little of their time to try and match their item with somebody via the Wanted's, there isn't really much we can do about it.

You can subscribe to a sub forum and be notified of any new threads.

Perhaps not the answer you wanted but it could help you

If I recall correctly, in the previous version of AmiBay, when you were starting to create a "For Sale" thread, in the title section, you could see if there were any "Wanted" threads of what you are supposed to sell. For instance, if you wanted to sell an Amiga 1200, then all available "Wanted" threads matching your title would come up in the list.

I found the wanted section has helped me find the items I've been looking for. Someday some one will contact you about it, then you just have to hope it within your budget 🤣

With regards to linking wanted thread to for sale threads it would be good if we had a system which shows the seller active wanted threads has @Templar mentioned it use to do but this wasn't just wanted threads it was both for sale and wanted threads. But this is the most we could do.

Why wanted threads are not automatically first inline on a for sale threads:

We've seen in the past that members pipe up that they have a wanted thread and they should be first inline when the item they want has popped up for sale and is an unbelievable bargain but don't say a word on another thread which has the same item but it is not a bargain

The other issue is if the system did work this way they would probably find that they would not be first inline due to all the wanted threads before theirs

With regards to members posting in other members wanted thread, this is to stop other members swooping in on another members possible deal. We have seen it done in the past and it is unfair on the member who has made the effort to make the wanted thread. How would you like it if you made a wanted thread, I post in it "I'm looking for one too" and then another member posts "I have one" and then I get it from your wanted thread because you were away again for a few days

In regards to the 'Amiga 3000 complete case only' thread:

I used to reserve items for people having a wanted thread. I'd post a sales thread, PM people having a wanted thread with the link and reserve it for them. Nothing wrong with it imho.

I wish they would. Yet again! 2nd time Missing out on buying a Cybervision 64/3D card! Is there no way to alert sellers when putting a sales thread up of those who are wanting an item? I can’t be browsing Amibay 24/7.

On the topic of the wanted threads. I feel I got gazumped by another in this. Someone posted they were after a PSU, I said I was willing to sell one and sent a PM to sort out the sale. Then someone else mentions they have one also and the deal then falls through 🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyway for fairness like the Sales Forum, any chance there could be a setup on 1st 2nd etc? Cheers 🍻

@Boing-ball If you subscribe to Amiga Hardware For Sale you'll receive a notification for each new thread and/or post.

It's what I do for all of the For Sale/Wanted Forums.

The notification isn't immediate but it is pretty quick.

Wanted threads have always operated the way they do now and I don't see that changing.

The OP has the choice of which seller he wishes to go with which is why with Wanted threads the price is sent by PM rather than published in the open forum.

This has been active on the new software for a while

I feel like I caused a misinterpretation of the rules with my posting.
I always check Wanted thread, in case if I happened to have such item for sale. Why I do that? Bacause I don't want anybody to feel left out. That does not mean everybody does that.
It is not the rule.

Edit: I typed pm into this thread [facepalm].

That’s good. From my point of view, this should happen more often. But as a newbie on here, it’s also frustrating when you are after something which you have put out a wanted request in a particular piece of equipment, then a sales thread comes up and it’s then just bought up by someone who hasn’t put in a Wanted thread. This has now happened twice to me. But I have been informed that I need to subscribe to get these alerts.

The reason why we don’t enforce wanted threads come 1st.

“Wanted”. Looking for 1 unicorn. Please pm me if you have one.

Now all i have to do is post wanted threads for everything i ever want and sit back. Nope not going to happen. A seller might reserve for you but you have to be actively looking so it fair to everyone not letting the wanted threads vacuum everything up 1st

When the seller started to type the title of his new thread, '' cybervi.. '', your wanted request appears to him and he has to ignore it or contact you.
Nothing more, nothing less.
I support you 100% and I know how you feel about it but.....😔

Exactly

Yeah wanted threads should not be allowed to vacuum up everything. Sellers post items for sale, and buyers look for items whenever they want. No different than than the old school classified ads in newspapers or even eBay. For those self entitled posters who think they can just post an “I want an X” thread and lay back I have a tissue for you. For fluff sake.

If you want it, go get it. And if you can't find it, you ain't looking hard enough.

Good to know… Cheers 🍻

On the subject of Wanted threads. Are there any rules about gazumping one another?
Prime example: Someone was after a A4000D PSU. Put a reply in that I have one and PM sent to the person who was looking for one.
Then someone else puts a reply in not soon later ( a few hours later) saying they had one. Then person who wanted the item from then changes their mind…

How do you know you were gazumped?

The offer could have been accepted for various reasons, i.e. better condition, tested/working, delivery options, price, etc.
