Hi, I want to replace the scsi CD drive in my A4000D with an IDE drive. It will just run off the motherboard IDE connection. I've seen that the Liteon drives are recommended for their size (the scsi is a very tight fit).

Been looking on eBay and found a few different ones for sale which are only 170mm deep but I wondered if any of you could recommend specific models. If I get a DVD writer will I be able to burn CDs and DVDs?
Any models known to not work on an A4000?

Thanks.

When you consider how cheap they are (Sub £20) just get one and see??

Yes with Makedisc you'll be able to burn cd's and dvd's. Although I wouldn't recommend it if you've got a PC/Mac also.

I use a LiteOn with my A4000D right off the motherboard IDE. I installed IDEFix to get it setup and it works great :)

Thanks. Do you happen to know the model number?

Thanks. Agreed, they are cheap. Just didn't want to make a silly mistake if there is some knowledge about good and bad ones out there.

Ummm, not too sure, its sat in my A4000 but Im not too sure what the exact model is  It says 52x32x52x on the front, which signifies the speeds it reads and writes at but no other model info. I think with most LiteOns you are OK, Ive had a few in my Amigas over the years, Im pretty sure you will be fine with one :)

Newegg.com sells a new IDE DVD / CD burner in beige made by BusLink that matches my A4000t perfectly. It's quiet, fast and comes with Black face-plate and software on CD in the box

I've also got a liteOn in my A4000 and it fits well with room to spare at the back. If I get time I will check the model for you.

Thanks for the offer but don't spend too much time looking up the model number. After the other replies I feel pretty confident about liteon so I picked up a SOHC-5235K on eBay over the weekend. It's a CD-RW which can read DVDs. I decided I'll probably never burn a DVD on the Amiga.
