Why has the thread I've declared interest in vanished?

There is only one reason why this happens.

The OP has failed to follow the rules in one form or another so the thread is removed. Unfortunatley this means that any declared interests are also removed.

There was a long and confusing discussion in this thread about the previous thread created by the same OP.

The previous thread was removed because there was no proof of ownership as required by the rules unfortunately when that happens any declared interest is also removed.

It is the responsibility of our members to follow the rules when creating threads and stating interest in items.

So if an item doesn't have a price you shouldn't declare interest.
If the item requires proof of ownership and it isn't provided you shouldn't declare interest.

In the above two instances the thread will more than likely be removed.
We do this to help protect our members from the opportunist scammers that appear on AmiBay now and again.

If you spot a thread that doesn't follow the rules the easiest thing to do is to report it so we can look in to the problem.

Well said.

Maybe have this as a sticky? That way it shouldn’t be ignored 👍🏻😉

Can threads not be locked/moved temporarily instead so that the interest order is preserved? It shouldn't be on the interested party to know if the seller's post complies with all the rules so it's quite unfair if they miss out due to a thread being deleted and reposted.

Edit
Basic things like missing a price definitely other issues are less obvious.

Edit 2
Is it possible to add a popup for members posting in the sales forums if either of the two requirements are not met (less than 50 posts or 10 feedbacks) that displays a message that if the item is over £50 you need to provide proof of ownership with a 'click here' for info? Maybe difficult to implement...

Feel free to delete if I'm waffling off topic :)

The only problem is, even though you may think im on 24/7 😆 I and the other moderators are not so they are still vulnerable to being declared on prior to us seeing an issue and locking the thread.

The reason for the deletion instead of lock is to remove the possible scam. Even though it would be thier own fault members may see its locked but still try and contact the seller to buy it under the radar, deletion removes this because it would only be seen by the few when first posted.

Deleting the thread doesn't remove the thread from the forum and they can be restored, but we only do this if the user (seller) request it plus adding the proof. Maybe when we delete a thread we add to the notification explaining the deletion to contact a member of staff with proof to restore the thread

@comraider is working on something with the proof of ownership which will hopefully help with this

As @Timtheloon has indicated things are being developed in the background to try and rectify some of the things discussed here.

But until that’s active our only option is to remove threads that don’t comply with the rules.

Just to be clear any thread that is removed - the OP is notified why the thread has been removed.

If only it was that easy. Unfortunately, it will get ignored, (even if it was a huge neon sign), hence why as @davideo and @Timtheloon have indicated, things are being developed in the background to try and rectify some of these issues.

I've not created a For Sale thread in a while but went to create one just now and this came up.

So a visible reminder is shown when creating a new thread.

I also post mostly on mobile too I guess that's why I've never noticed it. Also on mobile you need to actually go into a members profile to see their posts and feedback rating.

When I use my mobile in portrait mode I can't see a members feedback on their post but if I change to landscape I do

Oh yeah, that actually works :D I don't see the message but I may have cleared it down in the past!

It wouldn't work on my old phone but it does on my new one (y)

Main reason we delete non compliant threads is

1:- its just too much work. The back and forth opening or closing the thread for the op to update. It’s not in real time so the delays in the back and forth can cause issues while we wait for the op to update the sales thread with the required info while other members are declaring when they shouldn’t and the ones waiting to declare correctly get pushed down the queue.

2:- Negotiating ( arguing as in a recent thread then banned ) with the op what they need to do because they didn’t actually read the rules just ticked the box.

3:- Remembering the actual threads and the conversations with multiple mods. With my brain that’s a defo no. 😀

4:- warned and warned and warned and warned and warned and warned ………… you get the idea. Just don’t listen and it’s everyone else’s fault or our rules are stupid. Pfft!!! Yawn.

5:- simply deleting the invalid thread solves points 1 to 4. One click. With a resson ( we can let the OP know why ). “No proof of ownership”
Job done. Easy peasy
