ok so seems i should have checked this before i got the thing, but its a really nice system and runs perfectly well how it is now.

but i do have a few un known things in my device manager.
one says simple pci communicaton device
the other says serial port.

now try as i might i cant find any drivers for this machine that works with windows 7 x64

i have tied vista 64 drivers but they are installer packages and say "os not supported" and close so i cant even manually install the driver files like that..

Ideally id like to get all the drivers for windows 7x64 for each specific item in the system.

the audio driver "im pretty sure is realtek" windows has installed its own basic sort of drivers which do provide sound but some of my apps cant see the sound card because all it installed was "high definition audio" usually you get codecs and other things installed at the same time "or atleast thats what device manager says"

i dont want to downgrade to vista x64 which to most people the reasons would be obvious.

i lose some functionality if i downgrade to xp x64

and windows 7 x86 would mean i lose most of my ram "6gb installed"

really would be nice if some one has had similar issues in the past and know of a way to work arround this.

Thanx in advanced. and if you cant help dont worry about it im sure il figuire something out eventually. i have bearly been trying for a day yet, i usually wouldnt cave in so fast and ask, but i would like to get it set up fully so i can install all my stuff and configure it how i want it to be.

edit..

fixed my audio issues now.
i found compatable x64 drivers form realtek them selfs, so all that is fine and working..

i still hp
however have the 2 un known devices listed in device manager.

the closest i can see are the win7 32-bit drivers (don't know if they'll work/install or not) (could also try the XP drivers)

the unknown device is probably a modem. (which would be both a communications device and a com (serial) port)

claims to contain an LSI/Agere (Lucent) PCI Softmodem in any case (could also be a combo modem/audio)

i assumed it was a modem.. stupid thing wont install as one though.
i guess its not the end of the world though.

99% of it is set up and working good now, much faster than the other thing i had down here before.

quite impressed with it really for the money i spent.
it does have some sort of pci-e gpu installed but windows dosent seem to detect it all. but that dosent bother me any as im looking to pick up a 6450 for it any way (dosent really need it for what im using it for mind you, but the last thing i had here was fine for the longest time and then just couldnt quite cut the mustard recently. so i may aswell grab an inexpensive upgrade for it now and have done with it)

with the info of what modem it should be i found 64 bit drivers for the modem for a
HP Compaq 6000

.. these seem to have worked. still having issues with the pci serial port drivers but in all honesty i dont think i will let it bother me any more.
