After ten years in the making the space sim Wing Commander series’ Universe, designed by Origin Systems, will hopefully see a new title emerge. In Wing Command Saga (a fan production project), you will again fight the Kilrathi at the same time as WC3 and now conclude with the end of the decades long Terran-Kilrathi War.

WCS uses the Freespace 2′ engine, which source code has been released to the public. WCS modified and enhanced it for its purposes. The devs stated that this was all perfectly legal

“Yes, it is completely legal. The Freespace 2 engine’s source code has been released to the public sector, and Wing Commander Saga uses a modified and enhanced version of it. We have made every effort to ensure that all aspects of this mod are completely legal ~ Wing Commander Saga”.

The devs have released a feature preview trailer and announced the release date for March 22, 2012. The game will be released for the Windows PC, Linux and Mac

Everything is legal, except using a trademarked name

Ermmmm the public sector means central and local government. Why would they be interested? Military flight sim and combat scenario training perhaps?

Wingcommander is one of those classics that passed me by... (Yeah, I know )

Will be nice to try this one out!

AmiNeo, you should try Wing Commander 1. It's like .. attack of the pixels!

WC1 & 2 did not involve an actual 3D rendering system. It drew scaled 2D sprites which would rotate in the most ugliest way. Still, it's rather fun blasting evil space kitties, even if you're not sure what you're looking at half the time.

I have a legit copy of .. well WC 1 through .. 4? around here somewhere... Or semi-legit anyways (I tended to buy a game with a friend, splitting the cost in half, and making a copy..)

I loved the first game. Didn't have a PC capable of running it at the time, so played the AGA and CD32 versions. Yes, it was super blocky pixel scaling madness, but at the time was amazing. Great space shooting fun.

I downloaded the game last night via the torrent (so I could help seed it for others for a bit). Not had time to test it yet though (waiting for my wife to go out as she thinks I'm doing work at the moment ;) ).

Then you can whack the speakers up and enjoy the retro-ness full blast! :D

So you have the same problem them. I can have music playing quieter than a pin dropping and I get "Are you playing the music again? All I can hear down here is that annoying base thumping through the floor!". How?

I downloaded the game, did the very first two missions OK.

On the 3rd training mission I discovered that I suck big time in this game, lol.

sound issues? on the original or new game?

if the new one, go to the web site and grab the sound patch:thumbsup: (I didn't need it but it must be there for a reason:))

Yup, tired of wearing headphones so long that my ears ache too... It's even worse when its hot!
