If such a thing was produced, would you buy it?

In theory, yes. In practice, it all comes down to the price. I'd stick an extra few quid on my order for such an item, but not much more than that.

Yes, no question. But it would depend on it looking very tidy and the quality side of things.

Yes but only if it looked cool and not Frankenstein-ish!
Phipscube's trapdoor was indeed full of epicness and win! \o/

Yes but as mentioned earlier only for a few quid extra, would be good if it was an optional extra.

I think my top-end would be £5 but for this price it would have to be good quality in a presentation box with a pretty bow :)

This is the problem, its not about making them really.
Its about getting it as close to the original and good quality and keeping cost down.

Cheers Marios :)

If I didn't have my own modded one i'd buy one too... but, it took me quite a while to get mine like that, i'e lots of labour cost. But of course my tools were pretty basic.

If for example existing trapdoor covers could be modded quickly and cheaply then that might be an angle to take. A machine that can cut out a rectangle in seconds like a press or something and a pre-cut piece of mesh is fixed in somehow then it might work cheapish...

But going back... if one could be made of good quality I'd buy one for around 10-15 Euros. I think £5 is a bit low, you can buy trapdoor covers as they are now for that, yellow and all :D

Hmm, would be a shame to cut up Amiga parts in bulk for this kind of project.

I guess we need someone with the tools whose prepared to do us a favour ;)

Otherwise as suggested its probably not cost effective.

Some white painted metal mesh would be nice if such a thing can be made to work. :)

I'd be up for forking out a good tenner for something like that.

No. But if it's going to be cool goldish carbon fiber (like on tuned cars), or for example gold engraved and emi shielded I probably would not resist. :)

I've asked for a quote from a Plastic Moulding firm who claim to do low volume (as low as 1 unit) production.

The product I am suggesting is a straight forward trapdoor repacement without the risen tracks underneath and venting such as that on the top of the A600\A1200.

I'll let ya'll know how I get on

Its not as simple as that, you going to have the catch too?
Im sure that will push the price up.

I've mentioned that catch, yes.

I'm sure you're right in it not being viable but there's no harm in asking.

If they think its a waste of time they wont read it, if they think its worth doing they'll quote me.

I'm prepared to supply my trapdoor for moulding, which I'm guessing is the next step.

If they quote a price which is realistic then I'll open a group buy.

I'm not interested in making any profit or selling, etc.

Steve.

Wow nice job fitzsteve, I see elsewhere you are a hardcore hardware addict, now it looks like you are going to Amiga accessory production! :)

Will be interesting to see what response you get.

As mentioned earlier cost effectiveness vs quality is the test.

Thanks, I could just be way out of my depth here though lol, but anyway worth asking ;)

I'd rather keep my Amiga on a flat cool surface with the trapdoor off...

But then again I aint running anything overly heat producing in there anyways!

Hate to say this, but everyone seems to be forgetting something.
Heat rises, so a hole / mesh in the trap door will do very little.

count me in, i'll need one for the ACA as i don't want to mutilate my original cover by cutting of the plastic bars.
