ZX Spectrum 128k +2 AY sound problem (volume low)

Hi, I've noticed that music/sound played from the AY sound chip has a lower volume than the non-AY sounds. This is noticeable for example on the Chase HQ title screen where the drums are much louder than the music. I've noticed it on other stuff too such as the amazing tune for Byte Me which sounds perfect but low volume.

Is this a common and easily remedied issue ?

the problem was much worse for me when using the 3.5mm sound output as opposed to RF.
