Finally fitted a SOLAS

And I finally got time to install the Solas that I got before Christmas. (And I brought in the Amiga from summerhouse into the house)

There were the usual dramas as I managed to bend a rom pin when fitting the Rom riser to get the clock signals, and the solas, the rom riser and the indy mk2 all fit very tightly, which isn't helped by the motherboard flexing in the checkmate case, and as usual there were several times I thought i had killed the amiga altogether....but.....it works! I still have more to set up, but currently it's fitted, the rapid road is plugged into it and works (not on port 0 though which caused me to think I had blown that up at first), and the 1st LED strip is fitted. The solas software runs and finds the board and it controls the LEDs.

I have it set to do the knightrider pattern when switched on and then goes to a breathing pattern once workbench loads, flashing red on hd access.

Still to do:
- Fit an RTC (i have several but they are both slightly too big- shorter one on order)

- fit the temperature sensors, probably to my 060 and the Indy mk2

- I am also thinking about refitting the cd drive, and then linking in the solas' ability to match the sounds. However I think I need the services of the one and only a.mi.goun for that one...

What is a SOLAS?? in the maritime world it stands for Safety Of Life At Sea. Take it its the lighting affect??

@Timethloon it actually does more than that - basically look here: http://www.robthenerd.com/projects/solas

I dont use anywhere near all the features, but on mine I use it to
- act as a clockport splitter, so it plugs into the clockport and I have an RTC and my Rapid Road plugged into it.
- control the two RGB LED strips via software that lets you set patterns and colours for things like idle state, HDD activity, FDD activity etc
- I have two temp sensors plugged into it that are on the 68060 and the Indy MK2, these are reported as enviroment variables and so appear on the workbench toolbar

Very interesting shame about it not working with a FAST ATA which I currently have in my Checkmate

I wish there was more control over the clockports to stop conflict that would be good but thats probably wishful thinking 🤔

like the fan controller option too

Does it not work with the FAST ATA? Is that just a physical fit thing? The Solas can be done with a clockport cable and the checkmate case has plenty of room?

I use mine with a cable.....as I have a Elbox busboard I have 4 clockports....and had TWO solas`es running lol.
