Sony Vaio PCGA-CD51/A CD-ROM Drive

This is my latest indulgence for my Amiga A1200's. Okay, so it looks a bit battered and dirty externally but it's only cosmetic. A quick wipe over using some IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) sprayed onto some kitchen roll worked wonders.

I believe the drive speed is 16x (according to Google) but full specification information is scarce, even on Sony's website.

Forget having to hunt for the rare Surf Squirrel cable or hack your case to route ribbon and power cables for a standard ATAPI CD-ROM drive. Also there is no need for an external power supply as this device is fully powered by the computer via the PCMCIA slot.

Basically you plug it in, install the drivers (PCMCIACD) and (CardReset) from Aminet and away you go.

Overall it's a neat, fast device. It has a small footprint plus it's compatible with the A1200 and A600 computer.
