I have a Mega STE with some nasty cosmetic damage to the upper half of the case. Maybe someone out there has rack mounted your MSTE, or has one that has died, and is willing to part with the case? If so let me know, thanks!
BBC Micro key switches
Mark at Retroclinic has them- I bought my BBC B from him and after a while the spacebar started playing up so he dropped some in the post to me. My keyswitches are the same as yours.

Yeah I would use external power, that's an easy change though. the Nano can accept external power, just only has a pin for it not a connector on the board.

Looks great! Have you measured how much current you are drawing from the C64? If it's a lot, might want to consider lowering the LCD backlight brightness, or external power, safer for both devices.

I connect an Arduino to the C64 user port data pins and USB at the same time. I think a common ground and diodes on the user port pins should be enough safety- leave the C64 Vcc disconnected from the Arduino.
