Yes to boot from TF you HAVE to have eide.device in the ROM, or boot from something else and straightaway copy eide.dev into mapped rom and reboot.

My experience with Terrible Fire and CF cards / SD cards is this, use CF cards. I find that CF cards usually allow 2 attached to a channel, where SD cards dont. SD cards in my experience trick you into looking like they will work and then fail. Hope you get it all working.

i do think the NTSC and CRT requirement will restrict you a bit for a A1200 as i see a lot of A1200 but they tend to be PAL. Another thing to consider is the A600. (wait for the cries of Noooooooo). It has PCMCIA, IDE and is easy to find, newer than 500, more likely to be CiB and is...

i think depends on what the use case is. any PC drive is 100% compatible if 2 of the three mods can be done. The "ready" line (not use by PC, is only really required for disk duplication with a cyclone cartridge or some games. To be honest you would have to be dead in the wood Amiga original...
