Latest rumor running around..
Petro is looking to sell 1500 Amiga 1200's that are currently stored in India.

I'm not on Facebook and my German skills are non-existant.
http://www.a1k.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32249
(And for some reason, google translate didn't let me translate it.. Got it from an Amiga.org thread. Supposedly it's semi-verified on Petro's Facebook page, but I'm not on Facebook to verify the verification.. ;-) )

Anyway, from what I gather, he's looking to sell all 1500 at once, if true...

Interesting..

That would be really cool:thumbsup: In the car world a similar thing happened with the last ever batch of Rover Maestros I believe!

Would you be able to post the original summary, I think you have to be a member to view that post :( Love their sites logs - that A500 is exactly as I remember them - fresh, whiter looking and very modern looking even after 20 years +

I didn't see nothing about it on Petro's page in Facebook...

That's one of the weird things. Something about google translate and logging in.
I am a member and can view it in German.
But I can't translate the page..
Hey, I'll just copy and paste the whole batch and see what it looks like...

Hmm.. That thread is 5 pages..
I'm thru the first page, but between the translation and speculation, I can't tell anything yet..
Well, that didn't help.
The translation was pretty iffy.
I think it was mostly people saying "I'll take X number of them" and then a lot of discussion about the costs and logistics of shipping, etc..
But I couldn't pull out any real information from the translation....
So still very much a rumor..
Fun rumor tho.. ;-)

Thanks for having a go :)

Just seen the thread on amiga.org.

Hmm take a look at this:

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=668

"Soon expected, TBA".

Do not know if the source is the same but it seems we could have some more NOS systems, good cause I have sold my magic pack ages ago.

That is really cool - a proper time warp experience :)

Ironic really that in 1995/96 they would not have been able to give them way!! I am glad these machine will receive the love and use they deserve this time around :)

I wouldn't be surprised. End of line stock/liquidation stock always appears years later after sitting in a warehouse.

Remember the Atari Jaguar appeared in the thousands in the early 00s and late 90s in this country - there were loads in Gamestation etc. being sold as New Old Stock.

Hurrah for NOS amigas!

Any comment from AmigaKit on this rumour?

Are you guys really expecting NOS A1200s? Are they Escom or Commodore?

Any idea of when they will be in?

Check out the Amigakit link - I think they are expecting NOS stock :)

Im hoping they respond here with more information though :)

Lets hope that there is more NOS, Im considering buying one for my collection although Id prefer it to be a Commodore! :D

Commodore models would be nice but I do remember lots and lots of Magic Pack A1200s going unsold in the mid 90s..... :(

I have a NOS AT Amiga from a couple of years ago but would consider a Commodore model for sure.

Wow 1500 NOS Amigas 1200 but, in India?, the AT Amiga 1200 were made in france so what in the hell are doing that A1200 in India?

I was wondering that, maybe they were manufactured there but demand dropped to zero so no one bothered to import them into Europe?

I am having to try very hard to resist the temptation to buy one..................:picard:D

Great shame they didn't sell back in 95 - agreed they were ageing then, but still as a cheap home computer compared with minimum £1100 for a multimedia pc of the time, you actually had a great deal of machine for the money. Darn those 3d games....!:D Shame Escom (or Commodore for that matter) did not drop in a (working :) ) PC style 3.5 1.44mb floppy drive - I was using floppies up until 2002 on a uni course and so better cross compatibility might have help them live a bit longer?

On the flip side of the coin, what a wonderful opportunity in 2012?!?!?!?!?!?

I feel those Amiga 1200 that Escom produced represent the very last of the 80s style true personal home computer (with colourful packaging and individuality etc. ) before everything got standardised and industrialised with commodity PCs - great shame, a lost world :(

OK, here's the general gist of the thread over at a1k.org. Luckily, I can read, write and speak German and I'm a member of a1k.org...;)

This Petro Tyschtschenko guy has uncovered a cache of 1500 unsold A1200s in India. The a1k.org admins appear to be in some sort of discussions and price negitiations about a group buy of the whole consignment and they seem to be looking to draw up a list of interested members to be able to group buy the lot, with members paying something in the ball park of 100 Euros each.

They estimate that the consignment will probably be a full container load plus a light container load, i.e about 30 pallets worth in two containers. They are also trying to find out what the potential importation costs and charges will be, so the 100 Euro cost is purely an estimate.

The other discussions are centered around if these are Commodore or Escom models and what possible condition these machines will be in after storage for such a long time in a climate such as India. There is a risk that the capacitors will have leaked and that these machines could all need repairs in some shape or form.

One of the Admins on a1k.org (aPex) has stated that he has maybe 'jumped the gun' about this cache of A1200s part way through the thread and that further questions and negotiations will probably need to happen before anything moves towards making a serious list of members and taking deposits or payments.

If some of our German members can keep an eye on this thread and let us know if this develops into a serious group buy situation, we may be able to assist in finding the 1500 people that might wish to add themselves to the list over at a1k.org if this deal becomes serious. I have posted our potential interest in a group deal in that thread.

Hi,
I am following the thread at a1k.org for while. One of the board members will have a phone call with Petro Tyschtschenko within the next two days. As long as the people who made the contact to Petro dont come with an offer, the whole thing will be nothing more than an idea.

I do understand that you guys are happy to hear such news (so I am), but most of the thread is guessing and rumors. Just wait for what aPEX has to say after he talked with Petro.

BR,

DerkaDerka

Hi DerkaDerka,

That's the impression I got from the thread. I'm not holding my breath at this time... I've said exactly that in the thread at a1k.org.

Some members in that thread think that this Petro guy could be a diffcult person to deal with and a tough negotiator, so I wouldn't go making any arrangements just yet...

Just trying to find 1500 people that may be willing to take part in this is a massive undertaking and that's without thinking about transfer from the port of entry and storage, along with shipping these A1200s potentially all over the World.

This could be like organising the D-Day landings all over again and anyone thinking about this deal won't take this on without some serious thinking beforehand.

I don't think it's going to be that hard, and maybe Amigakit can arrange something.
I already posted it on our site Amigascene.nl, so the Netherlands knows it too now.

Merlin, you are a very talent man, and thank you for the translation :) Thank you.

I think this is an interesting scenario and I cannot help but feel it will require someone like Amigakit to put down an order for at least half as finding enough 1500 people would be very difficult I fear :(

Fingers crossed, and please keep us posted - I would be tempted to buy one, although I would have to have a serious think as I am running out of space..:p:)
