Merlin, you are a very talent man, and thank you for the translation :) Thank you.

No worries.

Being thrown in at the deep end when my Dad was posted to Germany with the Army in the early '70s had a fair bit to do with my German skills... it was either learn the language or stay on the camp all of the time.

My German may not be 100% spot on all of the time, but I can be understood and that's the main thing. I've been told that I have quite a good German accent when I speak it.

I wish that my French proficiency was as good as my German. I can get by in French but I need more practice to be honest.

Anyway, back on topic.....

The logistics make it an interesting discussion.
Assuming it's true; getting a group buy together for upwards of 1500 machines??
It would probably help considerably if it could be run thru Amigakit/Vesalia/???.
And I am sure Amigakit could sell a hundred of these...
But beyond that? And over what timeframe???
(I'm not saying they couldn't; I really have no idea...)

Anyway, still fun news. I hope something positive comes out of this...

That's frightening when you put it like that :wooha::D:thumbsup:. I had my A1200 new 20 years ago now, that is impossible!?!?!??! :wooha::D

I think I would be tempted to get one; I cannot believe there will be many more opportunities to buy new classic Amigas :)

Yeah, 20 years has gone by so fast!
Won`t be long till it`s time to start thinking about a mid life crisis... oh wait!

wow would be interested to if they came to avail. nice to have a nos one.

According to aPex, Petro has set a price of 150 Euros per unit, delivered by air to Frankfurt. If additional shipping is required, that would cost extra.

Extra shipping costs and customs clearance may make these not so much of a bargain after all, but that's just my 2p worth.

The members on a1k.org are still trying to find out which version they are (C= or Escom) and are asking questions such as what region and language keyboards are fitted to them.

So capacitors can degrade even if the computer was never turned
on I did not know that wow this changes how I look at surplus
electronics..

:coffee:

Thanks for the info - I guess it is down to the unique opportunity of being able to buy a NOS A1200 in 2012.

Ok,
for as far I understand the guys at a1k.org are collecting orders. You can use this thread for making an order:

http://www.a1k.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32272&highlight=Petro

Please dont post any questions there or any comments, just leave the following informations, and DONT Spam the mods with PMs:

Nickname
Country
# of A1200 u wish to order

Any chat about the order, questions and comments in this thread:

http://www.a1k.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32249&page=12

Maybe u guys should sent Merlin ahead with your collective order, would make things easier. Anyway, I am going to wait whats happening, because it is not clear to me in which kind of state the A1200 will be. There are some discussions about whats happening with the hardware when its stored for 20 years. Price is 150 Euros + shipping.

@ DerkaDerka

Have they figured out what is going to happen with a non-German order once it reaches Frankfurt? Is Pedro shipping direct to every person?

It wasn't clear what arrangements he was making for shipping or Customs clearance / import duties etc. beyond shipping to Frankfurt.

Is he calculating every order individually, based on it's final shipping destination? It's not totally clear from the discussions in that thread and it's all a bit foggy on details.

I've asked for further clarification before we start making any lists on AmiBay.

Hmmm, i dont speak German so I'll wait and see if amigakit get some stock!

Hmmm... I can pick up one one fleabay for about $150 USD. Of course that's used and usually without the box, but that will probably be a minimum of $250 to get it to the states, plus custom duties.

Think I'll have to pass this one up. :(

Depends on the contracts a seller has. Two or three boxes could easily be sent for 70€ Airmail in one huge box, customs declaration can be free handled :) These are old Computers which are worth zero for most of the people in this world...

OK...I'm not a member on A1k.org nor do I speak German. Does anyone know what is going on with this? I saw Amigakit has updated their page with the A1200. Is this going to be the method of buying one of these?

I appreciate anyones interpretation of what is going on.

Thanks!

I did some translations with the Firefox plugin and was able to follow the thread. Basically everything has been dropped for now. There just isn't enough info at this time.

Since I am fluent in German and in fact met him once many years ago on one of the last big Amiga Fairs in Germany (my dad and I were reseller of MacroSystems for the south of the Netherlands), we know him as very approachable and a good man who truly loves the Amiga.. having said so.. here are some answers to the questions you might have.

What margins are there?
No margin.. he is doing this for the love he has for the Amiga.. like so many of us.. otherwise he would have sold it to AmigaKit or Vesalia.

You want one?
If you want one (yes, one only) then email him on: amiga1200magic@gmail.com and give him your full name and address so he can quote you for shipment.. once he gets new stock.. so do not keep asking/mailing.. just wait :-)

Payment?
Payment is done per bank wire only.

Will it work?
Amiga's are tested to see if they boot, have picture and sound.. no more than that. But hardware is 100% new. The boxing has some shelf-wear but that is to be expected.

When can I get one?
Email him now and you might be able to get one in January/February timeframe.. depending on how quick you are, who else ordered, how many are coming next and when.. so be patient.

What you should not do?
Although he has no way of keeping you from doing it, he would not like to see them end up on Evilbay and sold with a profit. He is doing this out of love for the community.. so order only to keep and respect hat please

Signed Amiga
If you do not like the Amiga to be signed (or signed at the bottom) then you can request this of course. I like a signature, but also not on the top cover (being a purist and what not)

I mail with him in German on Facebook and if you have a question then let me know.. maybe i know the answer and if not, I will ask him for you should you want me to.

Hope this helps you all to make a decision on what to do :)

Well said...today he posted on his account on Facebook about a guy who after he bought an Amiga from him he then went on selling it on Evilbay for a profit of over 60 euros!!!

He was obviously very sad about it and i can understand him completely because he puts a lot of work in finding and then giving these amigas to the people and he does it only out of his great love to Amiga.

People should respect this...
